Default Blue Light in Overhead Console?

Hi,

We just picked up our 2010 Outback 2.5 Premium. There is a small blue light that is between the lights on the overhead console by the sunglasses holder. Anyone know what it is for? Our car is equipped with the all-wx package, auto-dimming mirror/compass, cargo net-rear,splash guards, rear bumper cover and wheek arch molding. I bought factory steel wheels and factory hubcaps for snows. I will be putting Winterforce 215/70/16's on as soon as there arrive. Believe it or not Sears had the best prices on the tires. $10 per tire less than the Tirerack!
Thanks in advance.

Matt

Can't say for sure (haven't received our car yet) but I've seen similar lights in a number of cars that function as an overhead light for the console area. Usually only makes a difference when it's especially dark.

That's been in my last few cars as well. I assumed it's there to illuminate the drive controls under all conditions.

Wow, 4 responses and no one actually knows?

That LED is there on all trim levels (IIRC) and serves as an aesthetic, dim illumination of the center console at night.

It's on the Forester too. Cheap way for Subaru to add a premium touch to the car.

I know that you just got the car, but I have to ask--Have you taken the time to read the Owner's Manual yet?

You might be amazed to see the wealth of information contained in that little book. Normally, these booklets detail all gauges, warning lights, controls, etc.
I would be surprised if this was not covered in the manual.

I wondered about this too when I first got my car. You'd think this would be covered in the owner's manual, but it is not. As others have said, it's only to provide a bit of illumination - it has nothing to do with bluetooth.

Had to look at press releases to find it, it is part of the "Premium" package (and Limited I assume). I searched the PDF version of the owners manual, I don't see it anywhere in the manual.

Outback 2.5i Premium adds or substitutes over Outback 2.5i:
10-way power driverís seat, including power lumbar
17-in. alloy wheels with 225/60 R17 all-season tires
Body-color side mirrors
Cargo area cover
Dash storage bin with lid
Driverís window auto up/down function
Halogen fog lights
Leather-wrapped steering wheel
Overhead console adds ambient light
Privacy rear glass
Windshield gradient shade band

The 2.5i Premium comes with either a 6-speed manual transmission or the option of the all-new Lineartronic CVT and will have a starting price of $20,995 (2.5i Premium with Lineartronic CVT starts at $21,995.) Standard equipment includes all 2.5i model features (where applicable) plus 10-way power driver's seat, driver's side window w/automatic up and down, leather-wrapped steering wheel, instrument storage bin w/door, overhead console with sunglass holder and ambient light, bright exhaust tip, body-colored mirrors and 16" Alloy Wheels . Options include: All-Weather Package, harman/kardon audio system and power moonroof.

Thanks guys. I could not find anything in the owner's manual. Even the salesman didn't know what it is. It only comes on when the headlights are on. It doesn't light up very much. It is just a faint hue.
