Default Removed drivers side door panel...

I've got plans for a couple changes to the door panel.

First will be adding some gel padding to the elbow rest of the drives door.
The foam under the pleather is cheap open cell foam. The two weeks of owing it has already made a little depression that's not springing back where my elbow rests. I've got some 1/4" thick wrist wrests from my keyboard that I'll put under the pleather.
The trick will be getting the arm rest off the door panel. It's attached by plastic-welding studs into holes. I know I can get it off, getting it back on is the issue. Anyone ever welded plastic together and had a strong repair?

The window controls are held onto the door panel by two screws. You have to remove the panel to get the switches off. The auto up/down of the drivers window is accomplished by a special switch that the other windows don't have. At this point I don't think there's any way to make all the windows auto up/down. (You could modify my VW to make all the windows auto by removing a small stop)

Second will be the speakers. I forgot to take a pic of the back of the speaker but the magnet is 1.5" in diameter (and that's being generous). My car has the basic radio, no HK upgrade. They are 4 ohm for anyone concerned about replacing them and still using the factory head unit.
They look really cheap and in my opinion explain the terrible sound quality.
6.25" diameter, 2.5" deep. The space behind the speakers is no more than 2.5" to the window glass from the top of the speaker opening. The glass comes down to the middle of the speaker opening.

Nice pics. I was just asking the other day on how to remove the doors to replace the speakers. I suppose I will even once I receive the tweeters in the mail. So, 2.5 inches clearance - that narrows down some of the speakers I was looking at, but my favourite so far are the polk db651 and will work.

I would be interested on an update on how you increase your padding on the rest and further points thereof.
