I had a few gripes, most of which were mentioned above...

* Road noise was AWFUL, rendering the Bluetooth completely useless while driving. I could barely have a conversion with my passengers without screaming. This is both with and without my Thule racks
* Gas mileage was nowhere close to 36 on highway, even under "perfect" conditions -- no racks, summer gas, long highway trip. At best I was seeing 31-32. The MPG calculator was about 1.8 MPG off in favor of the car
* The bluetooth / non-nav didn't pull the names of my contacts from my iPhone. Small gripe, but annoying
* We spend a lot of time in northern Vermont skiing and the Impreza
already got stuck twice this winter. Wanted more ground clearance
* Stereo was not great, even in my Sport Limited with 6 speakers
* We're moving cross country in 6 months so the extra space will be nice

I traded in a BMW 3 Series (6spd) for the Impreza as my girlfriend didn't know how to drive stick. I loved some things about the Impreza and about Subaru in general, but the Outback makes more sense for us.

The Outback's special appearance package added some great features that really sold me. Plus we got a good deal, good trade in value, and fantastic APR.

Picked up a 2013 Outback for my wife on New Year's Eve. Her birthday is this month, so this is her birthday present. Can't wait to see what she gets me for my birthday in August

And the dealer didn't even puncture the front bumper. Congrats on the new ride and the clean bumper.

You can add me to the former 12 Impreza gang. I agree with the above statements, although I don't need the GC since I have a 10 Outback. I actually wanted to get a 13 OB but every Subaru dealer I went to would not give what I wanted for the car. I ended up getting a loaded 13 Honda Accord. Honda gave 3k more for my trade and discounted their car. Go figure.

510picker, congrats on the new car and the good lookin' wife!

I love the idea of buying a car for your wife for her birthday. I was tempted to get my wife a new car for Xmas, but decided against it since we have other financial obligations. Her birthday is coming up in July so may be a better time for us.

The bad thing about buying a car as birthday gift is it will be really hard to top the following years.

Thanks for the comment. She is a beauty!

I have to admit that the car was not a true surprise. She's been driving a Kia Soul since July of '09 and I've been trying to get her to buy something new for the past year. The main reason I wanted rid of the Kia was it being horrible in snow. We live in central Indiana and have been hammered with snow this year, so that finally got her to agree with me. We just happened to buy the one that was on the showroom floor with a nice bow on it, so she called it her birthday present.

Now that I have the Outback I want it to snow!

I guess the Honda dealer sold all of his 12's and was more motived. Good job on the Accord. I really like the 13's.

I thought I was the only person to trade in my 2012 Impreza for a 13 Outback...
I agree with the gripes completely. My #1 issue was noise. Foolishly, I even went through the tedious process of "sound deadening" (I used Second Skin, most people use "Dynamat" as a term of sound deadening material - Best explaination:Sound Deadener Showdown - Your Source for Sound Deadening Products and Information )
Anyway after doing the entire process of wheel-wells and doors/floor/hatch the difference did not drown out the terrible road noise from the tires. So then I went in for four new Bridgestone Serenity tires which did make a difference, but not nearly enough to render bluetooth useful at highway speeds.
Impreza is a very good around town car, fuel economy is not better than 32 mpg unless driving at 55 on a flat highway.
The outback premium is the best value and would recommend anyone with an impreza to upgrade as fuel economy isn't much different (5-6 mpg?). I opted for the SAP Limited OB. No regrets, just that I was dumb enough to think the Impreza was more than it is: an economy car.

I'm loving my Outback so far. Sounds like we got the same one -- Limited with SAP. I wanted some of the SAP features more than I wanted EyeSight in its first production year. Driving this car is a dream compared to the Impreza. I'm just adjusting to the size, as this is the largest car I've owned.

So glad to be out of the '12 Impreza, and my payment only went up $50 a month thanks to some aggressive financing offers from SoA / Chase.
