I drove with the Thule box I have pictured a few posts up with the box and car loaded as much as you can load these cars with the rear suspension bottomed out and still got 26mpg from San Diego to LA. Later drove from San Francisco to Los Angeles with the Thule box full of camping gear and myself and a buddy (much lighter load than before) and averaged 28.2mpg. So far I REALLY like the Thule and am happy I purchased it over the Yakima, which just didn't seem as refined and as nice as the Thule.
I did start getting the 'bumble bee' buzzing around 70+mpg, but it was not that bad, especially with the stereo on. I will look into the roof rail gasket issue that is apparently causing this. |

Hi All -
Does anyone have a pic or 2 to share with either the Yakima LoPro or Thule Ascent 1100 attached to the factory rails/bars of a 2013 OB? Thanks!

Looks great, but would you please confirm that the length of the cargo box doesn't prevent you from opening the trunk fully? Also, do you know if any of the bigger Thule Cargo boxes would be "too long" (i.e., you wouldn't be able to open the trunk fully)? I wanted something a little bigger than the 1600.. like maybe the 1800... so that we could fit some longer skiis. Thanks!

I have not yet tried my older box on the new car but checked out newer models and discussed with friends who own them. When you shop notice how some are molded in a way to better clear the hatch. |

Has anyone successfully installed a Thule Atlantis 1800 xt on a 2013 factory setup? I'm reading posts here, but I'm interested in the latest model of the car and box. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

I just purchased a 2013 2.5 Limited and installed the Thule Atlantis 1800 on the factory cross bars. The rear hatch does touch when open full, just about a 1/4 inch and only touches the third brake light not the paint on the hatch. Needed the extra space compared to the 1600 so I can live with the slight "touch" of the 1800.

Just thought I would a a few photos of my old box on my new car.
I have a large, old Yakima box from around 2001 that I used to have on my 2000 OB limited. I had to drill new holes for the front mounts in the box. The 3rd light on the hatch does touch the box, but I cut a piece from a rubberized mat and glued it to the rear of the box. Works great! Total height is 6'11". The local garages all seem to be 6'10" clearance.. ![]() ![]()
