The bug shield comes with a half dozen of the 3M strip "tabs" for you to put on the paint where the screws and tabs come in contact with the paint. I don't see how the shield in and of itself would ever make contact with the paint unless some force was applied to it (then it has bump-stops on it for that).

Use the included 3M tabs and make sure the bump-stops are aligned correctly and you'll be fine.
It's not the tabs and bump stops that are the problem it's the foam strip that "eats" the clearcoat. Check here. Hood Protector Harming Paint

I agree with OBnube... once you start using the film (regardless of manufacturer although some claim that 3M is the best) you will be happy with results. You can order a pre-cut film specifically to your application and install it yourself or have a detail/window tinting shop do it. I had the first one installed (looking over the installer's shoulder) and the subsequent ones I did myself. All you need is a couple of squeegies, dishwasher soap/water solution and rubbing alcohol/dishwasher soap/water solution and above all patience! There are many instructions on u-tube how to do it.

I did my complete Audi and front of my outback with Venture shield, no yellowing. I would never have a car without it.

I removed the foam. Was a real pain in the butt. But it's gone.

Several people used that solution. IIRC one person reported getting a vibration/noise the dealer tracked to the guard after removing the foam. I don't know what the definitive solution is. I used the beg method for a free strip of 3M on my first OB but went with the bikini cut clearbra(1/3 hood) on my current. Both are essentialy the same and have had no issues with either. Removing the foam is definatly the cheapest.

No noise here. There's 2 3M joints "in-town" and they were both going to make me pay +$150 for a 2"x3' strip. No way.

That's insane. They have scraps that big from the cut patterns they throw away.
