Heated Seat Install

Anyone installed heated seats themselves? I have the documents to remove seat from the car but not the actual procedure for installing the heating elements.

Also does anyone know how much is pre-wired? Might the seat be wired already? car is probably wired for heated just nothing to connect or control it?

Appears to be a long shot…
a.) AWP starts at the Prem level, b.) is a factory option/package (conn may be there but reqs whole seat assys, I assume).
Since the AWP is not avail at the std level, it’s quite possible the Std/Prem-Ltd harness are different.

It appears the man-seats have the heating coils - TBD.

I had a feeling there would be no wiring, have not had a chance to look into it, would be doing it for my father in law. Anyone have a DIY write up for the process based on generic seat heat elements?

I have those documents and noticed it showed the elements in there on the manual seat, that is actually what prompted my thinking it could be there. But odd according to the Subaru sheets heated seats on manual seats was not an option.

The shop manual does have a section on removing the heated seat system. Doesn't say anything about removing/adding wiring though. I'd assume that the electrical/relay system is the same across across base/prem/ltd.

It's a safe guess that the wiring harness connection point is on all legacy's and outbacks they only install one wiring system. Though the add on items like heated seats - fancy lights, sun roof - powered mirrors etc all are additional wiring harnesses which plug into the main system at some point. So its safe to assume that all you would need is the heated seat kit which would come with the small harness that plugs into the main power system at a specific spot probably under the center console and probably the same power source as the sig lighter in the center console. As for the heating pads they are just pads which are slipped under the seat cover not a big deal and the seats won't have them unless you have heated seats.

I’m not surprised – marketing/manufacturing segmentation.
1.) Their research could indicate the AWP as a high/popular option (I have this and deem it necessary in a cold climate). 2.) The heating coils have a cost-ratio justified for integration across the board.

The question is if the man-seats do indeed have the coils (‘Specs may change without notice…’).
Remove the DS seat to check for the harness/conn. If present, the next hurdle is the availability of the console/seat harness/sw.
