i've used my ski rack and it holds rods just fine, long distance, highway, etc. open both, lay rods in, clamp them down, done deal. i'm avoid putting the St. Croix in there but otherwise it works just fine.

It's not pre-made, but I know several people who built their own.
The most common design is to get heavy wall PVC pipe, 1 1/2 inch if you take off the reels, 4 or 6 inch if you leave the reels on, put threaded couplings on either end and then screw in a end cap. Some people will use foam rubber to keep the rods from bumping around inside. The whole pipe is then strapped down to the roof rack. Depending on how may poles you want to take, this could work for not a lot of $$. |
