With the K&N filter and with whatever backpressure the muffler introduced now gone, I would take a wild guess that it may have a couple of more HP. I'd be lying if I said I felt a noticable change. To the ear though, it does sound like it has more power. That's what I was really going for, some sound out the back. If everything goes as planned, I should have a sound clip posted tomorrow so you guys can hear what it sounds like.

Great post! I was the guy that started the original thread, and yes I agree us Car Guys can't leave anything alone...errr even our "wifes" car
![]() I haven't gone any further with modding my 2.5i exhaust since my previous post, found out my 2 year old son has cancer so the car has been the least of our priority. That said perhaps I might make a similar setup, but keep my tip turned-down like the stock setup so it doesn't get caught or scrape off-road. I especially like the bolt-on setup that way you can put it back stock when it comes time to buy another Outback down the road.

Pool Runner,
Many thanks for the original thread you posted that got me to look underneath at the exhaust. I like your idea about a turndown tip. Maybe I'll have to try and make one. I posted a YouTube (I think) so that you and anyone interested can hear what my set up sounds like. The sound on the in-car part didn't come out as good as I would of liked. Although I tried different settings for the mic gain on my video recorder, I seemed to get too much road noise and not enough exhaust note or the other way around. The road noise on the video is a lot louder than in real life. I did find that my laptop speakers were totally inadequate. I had to pull the speakers and subwoofer out of the closet and hook them up. They made a huge difference. Last but most important, I hope for a speedy and full recovery for your son.

I love this idea. I would have never thought removing the muffler would sound good. I am a gear head and this got me thinking. Do you have part numbers for the flange and tip or at least where you got them? Did you use 2.25" piping?

The flange is a Walker 31897, it's steel, and I got it at Summit Racing. The pipe is 2" aluminized steel and it's hard to find a clamp-on tip with 2" inlet. I found one at BuyAutoTruck Accessories PN GOGRT236 and it came with the clamp. I found that a tip, even at only 3" on the outlet, really knocked down the ricey sound. I got another tip that is weld on from Verocious Motorsports. It's made by Vibrant PN 1209. If I ever get around to making a sst version, I'll weld this tip on.

Another albeit more expensive option for the 3.6 if we can get 4 more takers (one in WA state):
Exhaust anyone?
