I got several pine trees, a subaru jacket, a subaru travel mug, a subaru cold drink travel mug, a calendar, free oil changes, a free dinner, and told to bring it by weekly for a clean up if I was in town (hehe so far I have been in town every week).

But all my dealer required was I sign for the agreed upon price a sheet and then they gave me a copy and off I went.

I told them for a security deposit I only had $100. They drove 3 hours to get the car. The deposit was never even rang up.

I'm a zero down kinda guy.

I got free bumper stickers, two seedling trees, a notepad with pen, fresh cookies and coffee, free paint sealant, and I gave my car sales guy a 6pack of great lakes Christmas ale.

The price, 300 below invoice, free hitch and trailer wire harness.

Overall a great experience.

Mine was traded from another dealer. I put down a $500 deposit and got some paperwork. They got it a few days later and I went in and finished the paperwork. Nothing added no BS. The owner was my salesman and he did the financing, but it's a small dealership. I didn't get a mug My dad insisted on one when he got his Forester... but he drinks coffee lol

Thanks for the very prompt and useful answers, I knew this is a great forum!

I stopped by this morning by the dealer, and I got a copy of the figures ($28309, which is "at invoice", plus fees and taxes to be computed later) which he had scribbled on a piece of paper the day we ordered. He said that he will be able to print out the actual final price when the VIN is issued. I would have been happier with something more official, but this (very small) dealership has been honest in the past, when I bought the Forester (off the lot, a different process from ordering a build-to-order vehicle), so I'll just go with that for now.

I'll keep you posted when I get the VIN (which is at the same time I will get an estimated time of delivery to the dealer, I guess).

Well, my Outback arrived, and it is now sitting in my driveway!!!

The purchase process went as well as I could have hoped, no pressure to buy additional extended warranty, scotchgard protection, etc.

My salesman was honest and informative, I paid exactly what we agreed upon when I ordered (about seven weeks ago), which was invoice + license and taxes.

I am looking forward to many years of driving my new Outback!!!

IIRC, Mother Soobie listed "Full Tank Of Gas" as standard equipment
on my OB's window sticker, so the dealer didn't "give" me anything.

...you pay for what you get,
