...you would think that those changes would be applied to the '12's that have already gone out the door. That being said, it doesn't sound like they removed any of the lockout crap. I wish mine had a memory card so that I could download the maps that I need...that is really my biggest peeve. For basic functionality...works good for me...post hack of course.

If the disc is available , the dealer is going to knock your socks off. Way, way overpriced.

I received a notification that the new updated disks are available as of Feb 2012. I ordered them but it's $245 for the set direct from Kenwood at http://store.kenwoodusa.com/catalog.php?id=1209 .

Since I also became aware that this horrible Nav system is made by Kenwood, I sent them a nastygram via email. I hope others do too. The only way to have this unsafe and possibly life-threatening lockout feature is by telling Kenwood that their system stinks. Their contact emails are at Kenwood Accessory Store

So do you think that new outbacks will have the new disks if they are manufactured after Feb. 2012, or is it still a thing you still have to buy the new ones separate?

As for the concern about some of the options being blocked out during movement, the government is pushing OEMs to lock out all functions that are deemed a distraction on up coming models in the future. Most of the time an aftermarket will do more, be more up to date (for the most part) and may be able to manipulated to work while in motion.

Took the Sube to the best radio place in Philly and had them hack the unsafe and monumentally stupid Nav system feature. Now the GPS/Nav can be reprogrammed on the road. And as well, my iPod can also be fully worked on with all the menus showing.
I feel so strongly against this moronic and ill-conceived nanny feature that I wrote a scathing letter to Corporate. I got a nice memo back stating that they have sent it to their design team. I'm not holding my breath, though... Likely, the 2013 version's GPS/Nav system will also suck. With that hack complete, I absolutely loooooove the Sube! |

This is good to know. I own an 05 and my wife really likes the new ones. I want to try a 3.6. Our base 2.5 seems to have lost a little power at 117k.
There is nothing that I hate more than laws to protect people without common sense, cell phone laws fall into this category. |
