Default Whats the best way to break in a Subaru?

Hey guys,

I am new to Subaru and am just wondering what the best way to break it in. My wife mainly drives it and she is very easy on it. I drive it on occasion and I will run it up close to red line. Been doing this from 1,000 miles and now have just over 2,000 on it.

easy on the old frameless windows - just pull out on the window a little, then push a yardstick in to....oh....wait

Drive like a grandma. You need to baby it for about 5000 miles. Drive only to church on Sunday @ 15 under. Then you can open it up without hurting the transmission/motor/axles.

Check out the owners manual there is a section about it that is pretty informative. Easy on motor and brakes for about 1K miles. Vary speed on highway.

I generally give the people who build and design them the lead on this. Owners manual is very good regarding that and with my second Subaru I can attest that my first one seemed to be far far less problem prone than some folks who waved the breakin concept off as if it was just hype and BS.

Also the first oil change don't do it early and don't do it late there is a very good reason for the mileage point for the first oil change.

I hate to say it but it took a while to find in the owners manual, page 8-2. Basically what I said above, minus the brick that is...

Yeah, I am familar with the manual. Just wondering if one should run it a little harder was all.

Not much reason to run it harder. Some have said that the occasional 4000RPM merge to the freeway is about all it really takes to make sure those rings seat firmly. That was typical for my driving anyway, so I just followed the manual recommendations and drove it normally thereafter.
