This looks like a great solution. I hope this thread gets bumped before it get's cold again in the fall (before I forget to the mod, and get frustrated that the car turns off)
Only thing I'd be slightly concerned with is that if this modification is enabled, and someone breaks into your car via the driver's door, the alarm wouldn't be set off... But knock on wood, asshats these days don't usually break into cars, they just gain access to the ones left unlock (unless of course they see something of interest) |

It has been my experience with both my Outback and Legacy that the unlock button on the key only turns on the dome light when the car has not been remote started. Once the car has been remote started the dome light stays off until the door is opened. Unless, of course, the door switch is bypassed. |

1) The original system bypassed basically everything to hit the locks, which is why they didn't work. It was an installer screw-up, no doubt. 2) I knew going in to it that any third-party starter was going to bypass the immobilizer in one way or another. 3) I wasn't happy with the range of the Python 580, so I had it replaced with the 991. When the 991 was installed, the locks were installed properly, too. ![]() If I had it to do over again, I'd still be happier with the 991 than the OEM starter. Even looking at this thread, the "solution" is just disabling the door sensor (was this ever a mystery to anyone?) which disables anything else triggered by the door opening. And, so far, nothing improves the range from ~400' to the 1,500' I wanted. |

The engine shutting off when entering the car via remote start doesn't bother me too much. I just think about how I know the car has started without looking at it. See video below as I test the range of the system from my apartment. (Yes I walk to my car to illustrate the distance)

Any good quality aftermarket RS installed by a good installer is far superior than ANY OEM RS/alarm. Range, features, control, etc... - just to nix the aftermarket talk.
I DO understand the good price TAG, however. |

I got mine on eBay... Nopened. Installed it myself then had the dealership activate it. However, my dealership charged about $70 for the activation.

My solution was a small piece of stainless steel with a hole through it for the switch bolt to go through, very slight trimming of the switch rubber, a longer bolt and a few washers. Here's the finished product:
