Here I go showing my ignorance; so on the 2013 outback with the remote start when activated via remote start and one opens the door to get in the car, the car shuts off....? Im asking to be sure, I have a '13 with SAP and am hoping this issue isnt the case even with the push button start.
That is dumb, I bought my wife a '10 Forester XT Limited and it doesnt do that when remote started... |

Okay, here is going to be 'MY' non-elegant solutions to this problem.
I still have to download the 2013 service manual, but I have the 2009 (so I should get into plenty of trouble...LOL). I'm electrically (and mechanically savy), so this isn't so far fetched: Option 1: Put a switch under the dash (or conveniently located) to bypass the driver's door switch until you get in and put the key in the ignition Option 2: Same as #1, but would be a relay controlled by one of the wires from the OEM remote starter (still have to figure out which) Option 3: Install my old aftermarket starter from my 2003 Outback. Sure I'll be carrying 2 remotes, but I can use one switch to disable the door switch via one button, and (wiring still to be confirmed): activate the rear window defroster, and possibly augment the climate control 'auto mode' (which seems like a low-level joke) I could have also add option #4 and leave a old remote starter keypad at work & at home, but I could never get the second remote to work, so I'd lose that ability at work (mornings are more important). Will keep people advised of my progress. If anyone wishes to share the 2013 manual wiwing schematics, it would be appreciated. Was going to buy them around Christmas holidays when I'm at work with nothing to do & can download them at my leisure during the 3-day period available/throttled download speed. ------------------------------ edit NOV 7th to add: the 'full auto' climate control system mode that the OEM starter enables actually DOES enable the rear window defroster (and likely the front window defogger & front wiper deicer as well). I only found this out this morning as we had a hard frost & my windows were heated. So the only thing I would do now is to bypass the door switch. I'm looking through 2009 schematics to see if there is a way to use a relay to take a signal off the window defroster to make this happen. If that circuit is on, then it should be possible. |

This reminds me.. I need to send in a complaint on this. It's ridiculously stupid to have the car shut off when opening the door. I'm using remote start because I plan to drive the car. Why would I want it to shut off when I go to get into it? I've never had a remote start shut off when getting in the car before.

SOA
And the reason why it shuts off is that SOA lawyers more than likely said they would be liable for any issue if they didn't do this absolutely stupid thing. Lets see you have the remote start FOB and FOB to open the door so someone must be trying to steal your car or your 5 year old has the keys and is trying to escape. |

Fun2Drive:
And that is exactly the reason.... if someone else enters/opens the car (like your 5 year old kid) the kid will not drive off and disappear in the Pacific ocean...smoking and not sharing! LOL |

I've said this before. The implementation on our GM's makes much more sense to me. The vehicle keeps running when I open a door and I have to insert the key and turn it to the ON position before you can shift out of park. Seems just as safe to me.

If I open the door, it stays running. If the brake pedal is depressed without the key in the ignition then the engine shuts down. You have to press the brake pedal in order to shift it from park to any other gear. |
