Does this prevent the "door open" graphic in the center display of the gauge cluster? I'd imagine that would be tied to this sensor.

I had a remote start on my 09 Wrangler and it would stay running. I could start, hit the unlock button, get in and put the key in the ignition and drive off without having to restart the vehicle. **** I could remote start with the top and doors off of the Jeep, but you could not shift out of park unless the key was in the ignition and the brake pedal was pressed.

Having the car turn off when the door is opened is enough to prevent me from buying a factory remote start.

If we had known the remote starter on our 2013 Outback worked this way, we would not have spent the extra $525 for the dealer to install it. Plus, why the diminished range if you have keyless start? You literally have to be so close that by the time it does start with the FOB, you open the door and the engine dies. Our car spends it's life in the garage, we only really expected to use it when we were away from home, and this takes the usefulness out of it. I have a 2012 Chevy truck that has remote start and it works the way I think they all should. The way I wrongly assumed the Subie system would. And what's with the non auto-locking doors when the tranny is shifted? This feature was on a 2002 Dodge truck we had. Kinda thought it would be standard on any car by now....

The reason for the diminished range is they decided to use a inexpensive remote start system for the SAP. It has no receiver, antenna or remote of its own. Instead it connects to the door locks and when the door locks receive three pulses the RS start unit fires up. This limits the range of the remote starter to the door lock remote range plus adds in the timing issue of three button pushes. I guess there is no need for 2 way feedback like the non-sap system because you are always close enough to your car to hear it start. There are not many steps between being able to remote start your car and opening the door to have it shut off. If you just walk real slow your car should be warm when you get there.
I would definetly consider aftermarket for a sap model remote starter.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case. Going aftermarket fixes the range but finding an installer you can trust is daunting.

Works good in the Driveway or the Garage. Not that good in a parking lot. It is what it is.

Do you really remote start the car in the garage? I've been avoiding that due to the exhaust gas buildup.

I also have a remote Garage Door opener. I employ that first to avoid the exhaust buildup. Garage is also detached.

So I was just thinking and realized that there was a switch/button installed under the hood with the remote start feature which also shuts off the car when opened.

Now I was wondering if the switches for the hood and the door can be swapped at the terminal for the remote start module (if that makes any sense) so in a sense the hood switch will be in the door switch terminal, and the door switch would be in the hood switch terminal...

I have the wiring diagrams but my knowledge is very limited. Any thoughts on this...?
