Will certainly do, when I get it sorted.
I managed to get all the readings from the driver's door switch on the weekend - powered & unpowered. Next I will check the wire colours on the other switches, just to be sure, (might do that tomorrow) and then find where the wires are under the dash & figure something out. It will no doubt involve either a relay, activated via the car starter that will be disabled once the key is inserted/turned fully, or a switch under the dash that you have to manually disable. The hardest part, aside from finding time, is that it's getting rather cold here now! brrr... |

Location: mostly Boston, MA, where the local drivers are both aggressive and incompetent. Delightful!
Car: 2011 Outback 3.6 premium, rear sway bar, and way too many accessories. Anything that can make Boston winters more tolerable (e.g. remote start, molded wintertech snow mats etc).

Thank you kindly, I'll look forward to reading about your findings!
![]() I tried the modification proposed by SeattlePaddle at the beginning of the thread with the credit card and velcro - works GREAT for my doors after remote starting. I just have to remember not to touch the brake when I enter the car, my instinct is always to push down on the brake before inserting the car key, it's amusing how hard it is to overcome 25 years of conditioning.... If I remote start my 2013 3.6R and unlock the door with the button on my key, the interior light does not come on. If the car is not running and I unlock the door with the button on my key, the interior light does come on. Is this a problem that anyone else has?

The only solution I know of is to have a stereo shop modify the OEM or install an aftermarket (Viper comes to mind) remote start. My previous remote start system would allow all the doors to be open but if you didn't insert the key the engine would die when the brake was applied. Subaru purposely made this implementation this way to prohibit you from having the engine running when the door is opened.
My understanding is that the Forester allows you to keep the engine running put the key in and drive off. Go figure. Seems that Subaru could reprogram the system to allow this but I am certain for legal reasons they will not. Had I know this I would have NEVER bought the remote start. Absolutely stupid to have more of Big Brother Subaru "help to keep me from being hurt"!!! |

While I think the "Big Brother Subaru" comment is a bit hyperbolic, I agree with the overall sentiment. I took my '13 OB back to the dealership to get the factory receiver hitch installed that they missed during assembly (whoops!), and I inquired about some reprograming options. Their techs looked into my requests and here's what I was told:
The RS system works as designed, if you open a door, the engine shuts off. There is no way to change this behavior in programming. There is no programming change available to roll up your windows and/or close moonroof when arming the system. Both of these are part of the BIU (Body Integration Unit), which as far as I can tell, is the main computer for all the electronics and interactions of the vehicle. If there are changes that we think should be made for legitimate reasons, contact Subaru of America. (Subaru Indiana Automotive, that is) If enough of us bring up the same things for the same reasons, it's not impossible that we could get somewhere. I've done my part, tag you're it. |
