I have about 8K on my 2011 OB Limited. I notice when I yank the steering wheel with any momentim to the end, as in lock to lock, there is a very distinct clunk. I have driven many many cars and suvs and never experienced this . Anyone else get this annoying sound? Seems to me there should be some sort of rubber bumper or dampining device to prevent this from happening. Do I need to see the dealer?

I have about 14k on my 11 and have just started noticing that there is a distinct suspension or steering clunk (or sometimes clunks) happening when nearing lock with quick control inputs. I notice it when parking in parking lots and turning into my driveway. It sounds like a worn knuckle, bushing, etc. I am going to ask my dealer to check it out. You're right this isn't a noise we should be hearing in a new car.

I haven't noticed anything on my MY '10 but I normally don't go lock to lock just for the **** of, especially while parked.
That being said, I said it once and got chewed out by someone on here, but I believe the front end of this car (steering, brakes on 2.5, and maybe strut towers) is under designed/ poorly engineered for this car. |

I was taught very early to never hold the steering at full lock - that it was bad for the steering system. Are you guys having this clunk at full lock or just on aggressive turn to near full lock?

Mine is just when steering reaches either limit when turning quickly. No other vehicle I've driven does this.

mine does this nearing lock as well while pulling into a parking spot or into my turnaround in my driveway. I'd say it happens anywhere over 80% to lock on either direction, although I seem to hear it while turning right more often than left. I try not to hit lock either, I don't like to stress things in general. It is definitely not something that should be happening. this sound was always indicative of a problem on other cars I've owned.

I have this also. To me it is worse with full turn and accelerating. Nothing I worry about.....that is what a warranty is for. Just drive it. Guys you realize this is an AWD vehicle and may be something to do with the diffs.

I thought about diffs/awd driveline making noise too but what concerns me is that my 09 forester, which is a very similar setup, has 35k on it and doesn't make any of these noises. I figure Ill have the dealer check it. If I find anything Ill try to remember to update this thread.
