Hey all...my first post here. Another cool Subaru forum, so, glad to have joined.

Yesterday, I traded in my 2011 Legacy 3.6R Sedan for a 2012 3.6R Outback Ltd. Wife wanted a larger vehicle since we now have a baby that's growing up, and needed more space in the 'trunk' so to speak. While the sedan fit most of everything, a couple of bags always ended up in the back seat, versus the trunk. Her 2.5i from '08 was a bit too small for everything, so, being the nice guy that I am, I took over her '08 (paid off), traded in my '11, and bought a '12 OB. Phew!

Anyhow, since it was the last '12 on the lot, in Ice Silver, that's what we ended up with since there weren't many 12's with the 3.6 left here in Florida (at least not close by).

MSRP was 34596 --
Moonroof Package, Puddle Lights, Rear Vision Camera, Splash Guards, Rear Bumper Cover, Auto-Dimming Rear View Compass Mirror w/Homelink, Ice Silver Metallic Body Side Molding.

OTD price was 31K including a 7/100 gold warranty with $50 ded. Believe me when I say I tried to get a '0' ded. but, wasn't happenin'. All that included tag transfer, taxes, destination, fees, etc., etc.

Will post pics sometime, when I have them, as we got home at midnight since the dealership was a couple of hours from home.

Congrats on you purchase! By any chance did you compare 12MY vs 13MY? Where in FL are you located?

Default negotiating 101 that I failed

My local dealer won't budge yet from 2.5i pzev premium , moonroof pkg, all weather
$27350 (think he'll go 27100) ... with these port installed things: all weather mats, rear bumper protector, cargo net, puddle lights & mud guards ... 7.6% off of msrp but pretty much at edmunds invoice.

I was expecting to be under invoice by say $500 or more.. They claim to be losing $ if we go any lower (they do include free state inspections for life of car.. free loaners for service.. etc .. but still )

Should I settle ? Did get another price from another dealer far from here that will be about 350 less than the 27,100.. (taking into account differences in the administrative fees )

Invoice MSRP
24782 26295
1620 1945 Moon/Camera
795 795 dest
283 438 Stuff
------ --------------
27480 29473

Appreciate any thoughts

If you are at or near the Edmunds Invoice price, it is probably a good buy. I'm not sure what "pretty much" is; however, if within a $100~$150, then it should be a good price. Edmunds; unfortunately, lists accessory {stuff} prices (not options) a bit low.

I had seen people on the outback edmunds forum speak of $1000 or even $1500 off of invoice... which made me wonder why I am so far from that.

However.. the sales manager , when showing me the print-out of their costs.. added the hold back and advertising fee to it to make me think that's what they pay for the car.. It may be.. but even they admit they get that back.. $536 + $536. So his "invoice" # was indeed about $1000 where he now is.. He took off one of the $536 easily.. beyond that, perhaps another $200 after I found a cheaper deal near Philly to bargain with that I could do on a trip down there to visit family.

He's implying they are making no money on this car.. guilt..

Smile 2013 2.5i Premium + Sunroof

Picked it up last week for $27,301 (Pre tax and fees). Price included Moonroof/AWP, AW Mats, wheel well arches, rear seat back protectors, body side molding, bumper protector. It was my first time using TrueCar.com. I feel like I got a decent deal considering I didn't have to haggle. I feel like I'm getting a much better car for the extra money compared to my old 2005 2.5i OB. I would have skipped the moonroof, but the missus wanted the backup camera.

Put 500 miles on over the holiday and I'm loving it so far. Managed to stream Pandora over Bluetooth without a hitch using my Samsung Galaxy Note. The view out the front of the car is almost panoramic. Not crazy about the super dark tint out the back. My biggest worry was how the CVT would drive... and I'm impressed how smooth it is. I used to paddles to do a lot of down shifting in traffic.

I also added on a 7year/70k extended warranty for $1000. My 2005 had a few issues (Power windows, warped rotors) that would have more than paid for the warranty.

Here's to many safe and trouble free miles

Are you sure that warped rotors are covered under extended warranty?

I might have to argue over what constitutes "normal wear and tear"... but I would try. The real killer for me was 2 power window motor replacements 5k out of warranty. Even after many calls to SOA they would not fix them or give me a discount. I am about to do a 3rd motor replacement myself in the near future. I haven't gotten the full paperwork from Subaru on the warranty yet.

On Saturday I put a deposit on a 2013 OB Limited, red pearl, off black interior, eyesight-nav-moonroof, body side molding, splash guards, puddle lights, remote start, auto dim mirror with compass, security sensor, mats paid $ 200 more than Edmonds invoice. Think I could have done a little better if I went internet shopping but dealer is local and includes dealer lifetime warrantee, on engine and transmission, including all gaskets and seals. I will also purchase gold 7/100,000 haven't discussed warrantee price with dealer yet but since it lets them off the hook for engine and tranny for 100,000 miles should be able to get decent price or I'll purchase from member reccomended discount warrentee dealer.

Default Fair price for Outback: $33,950 (out the door)?

Longtime reader, first time post, first time buyer.

I have a quote (CT/MA area) for: Outback 2.5i Limited (PZEV) with:
1) options: Moonroof/NAV/EyeSight
2) accessories: Rear setback protectors, body side moldings, splash guards, wheel arch moldings, moonroof air deflector

Out the door price: 33,950
Car: 31,384
Doc/Title Prep: 374
Tax: 2017
Plates: 175

Is this a fair price?

Not sure if the following numbers are right but:
Using truecar, carsdirect, edmunds, and kbb: I estimated the "average invoice" to be $32321. Using this forum, -2% under invoice: $31,674.

All opinions welcome. Thank you in advance.
