It is "used" since it was a demo/loaner car but has 36k mile new car warranty and 60k mile powertrain and only has 8k miles on it. Is this a good deal or should I keep pushing lower?

As for 2013 Limited, dealers aren't going much lower than around 29k before TTL.

Thoughts, tips?
27,359 is way too high for a 2012. Get 2013. It has a lot of upgrades and you could be saving some money on maintenance long term. 2013 has a new engine with a maintenance free timing chain instead of timing belt which has to replaced at every 105k miles. Timing belt replacement could cost you about $1200.

Based on the prices you see in this thread, that seems a little high. Do you really need a limited? You should be able to get a new 2013 Premium with Sunroof for that price.

I'm looking at the Limited b/c of the leather. I wouldn't be opposed to a Premium and adding aftermarket leather, however, when going down that road I'm getting dealers quoting me very close to the price of the Limited. So far my best quote is 28.9 on a Limited w/ sunroof and no additional options. I'm going to keep pressing.

I just bought my 2013 Outback 2.5i Limited with Moonroof two days ago. About two weeks ago, I emailed the 10 most local dealers around (all within 150 miles) and informed them that I was "accepting bids from local dealers for the lowest offer" and that I planned to purchase a car within the next two weeks. I was very specific about the model I wanted and told them what colors I did not want, but was open to the rest. I heard back from about 8 of them, and emailed the 2 lowest offers back to do some further haggling. I would up buying the car (my first Subaru by the way--I've been trucking around my 1999 RAV4 since it was brand-new) for $27,900, and I traded-in my Toyota (that had 217k miles on it) for $1,700. Because I put about 30k miles per year on my car with my current job, I ended up purchasing the 100k extended warranty for $782. The total out the door price (including taxes and fees) was $28,489.20. It is a Venetian Red exterior and taupe leather interior and included accessories of: 4 all-weather floor mats, puddle lights, rear bumper cover, rear seat back protector, splash guards, and wheel locks-alloy wheels. To me it seems like a good deal, and I think part of the reason I was able to get a low purchase price is because the particular dealership I bought from was kind of set back in an area of town where people would never know the dealership even existed--so they probably don't get a whole lot of business. On the plus side, it was only 30 miles from where I live. Good luck!
Did the $27,900 include the extended warranty, if not did you include your trade in in the OTD price?

Default Best pricing is in Chicago, worth the trip. Michigan dealers reviewed

We recently purchased a 2013 2.5 outback limited / moonroof/ remote start / all weather mats / rear seatback & bumper cover/ wheel locks for $28500 (inc doc) + TTL. MSRP was 32071, so we paid about 11% off MSRP & around $1500 under invoice. We also took advantage of 0.9%/48 mo financing. We live in Michigan and checked pricing on most of the detroit area & kalamazoo dealers. They came back mostly around invoice to just above it. Thanks to this thread, I also checked Chicago, in particular Evanston Subaru (Derek Bogdan - very helpful) since it's an easy and cheap Amtrak ride and only about 5 min from the metra and 'L'. They will pick you up at the station.

The day before I left to pick up the car, the local dealer matched the price so I saved a trip. A few things I learned:

a. Costco , edmunds TMV and Consumer reports pricing is much higher than the regional market. Sometimes the dealers won't negotiate beyond that if you were referred by them.
b. Subaru pricing varies wildly between markets. If you look at the average paid, it's pretty large - over 5% between Detroit and Chicago. In general, the greater the inventory at the dealer, the lower the prices.
c. Dealers are still pushing too frequent service intervals and overpriced services and ridiculous menu bundles. It makes the experience more unpleasant.
d. Easiest way to negotiate is by email.
e. It's very difficult to buy an outback without some accessory package, like remote start or splash guards amounting to $400-500 extra without special order which you probably don't really need.
f. Dealers won't negotiate doc fee away.

Some dealers in the search stood out for service. Maple Hill Subaru in Kalamazoo was very helpful, very service oriented and their service pricing was low ($35 synthetic oil changes, loaners, etc.). Same with Grand Blanc Subaru (even less for routine maintenance). Hodges has the best reputation. The others were just OK.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the thread.

^^^ great first post.

im going between two dealers right now on pricing for a 2.5 limited and going to add two more dealers in the mix today.

I checked out the cars online and 3 of the 4 are around 31.9k except the one that is marked down to 28.5k...all having almost identical options.

Rear Vision Camera In Audio Display, Moonroof Package, Splash Guards, Rear Bumper Cover, Rear Seat Back Protector, Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror w/Homelink, Ice Silver Metallic Body Side Molding

looking at that, what would be a good out the door price??

ETA: so i started off with Dealer 1 at 31257 OTD, called Dealer 2 and he quoted me at 31700 OTD or so. i told him that the first dealer had him beat by 500 dollars so he put me on hold and came back with 30464 OTD. I then called Dealer 3 and she quoted me 31896 OTD, i told her that Dealer 2 quoted me at 30464 OTD and she kept saying that's below invoice, they wont sell it for that price, thats crazy...blah blah blah. finally she said she would beat it by 50 bucks so she quoted me at 30414.

I have one dealer to go so we'll see if he will match or beat that price.

Which dealer did you end up going with? Hodges is closest to me so I'll probably use them for service. They wouldn't get close on price, though.

Looks like a few phone calls and emails you've already worked almost $1k off the price. Nice work Hopefully you can squeeze more out of them!
