Default 2013 Outback Yakima Landing Pad

The redesigned 2013 Outback roof rack -- with additional attachment point for increased bar spread -- is not compatible with the Landing Pad 12. I called Yakima today and opened a case to track the progress of the redesigned Landing Pad for the new rack.

Fortunately my Yakima SkyBox 16 attaches fine to the factory rails on my 2013, but I can no longer carry two bikes and a box where I could with the Yakima cross bars, as shown in this post.

I'll post updates to this thread as I receive info from Yakima.

Could you not still use it in the original span location?

I understand the new rear position not working but the older span should still work shouldn't it?

Edit: I m not sure if you already own the landing pads, Obviously if you do not then it would be wise to wait.

I tried installing the Landing Pad from my 2012 on the 2013 and the mounts dont match up. The fronts will mount but are not quite the right size. The rear mounts will not install at all.

Here's your answer: The Yakima Landing Pad 12 does -not- work on the redesigned 2013 Outback.

So since it will not fit and Yakima will have to re-design it.. The next question is:
Will it blend!?

Now that you have the versatility to change your rack spacing, could you use one of those bars that mounts onto your current bars and makes them longer?

I'm not sure what they are called, but essentially they sister onto your current bars and extend out further, creating a wider bar.

UPDATE:
EVERYONE who has a '13 and is looking for the new landing pads needs to call up yakima and state so. They are taking each caller down and logging it. They have several new 13s that the 'fit team' is working on, and the one with the most need is getting done first. The more people that call and ask about the landing pads for the '13 outbacks, the faster they will get it done.

Call 1-888-925-4621, option 2, option 2

thanks!

I just called and talked with one of the techs. He seemed a bit stressed and said that the change of the roof rack on the '13s "left a bad taste in their mouth" since they worked so hard to develop the landing pad 12. He did say that they were working on a new landing pad for the '13 Outback and it would get done but it would be a few months.

Good luck and here's to waiting!
