Could you please also post a link for your frame/mounting screws?

That looks good the way you mounted and the plate is not even touching the bumper...perfect.

It's interesting, the Skene Design lists different bracket lengths for the '11 and the '12 Outbacks. I thought there was no difference between the two. It looks like a viable alternative, however, my CA dealer drilled the license plate holes to put on their dealership frame (which I promptly took off and asked if they wanted them back. "No, we have plenty" was their reply. I don't advertise for free.

I'm thinking about the Skene Designs...but mounting looks complicated. Drill I have is pretty lousy. But good idea, it doesn't touch the front of bumper at all.

The Skene Designs is easy to install. It is pretty simple. They even include a drill bit so all you need to do is plug your drill in. Some people do not even use the srews but just use the adhisive tape on the bracket to hold it in place.

Default I'm with you...

We just got our new 2013 Outback and I'm appalled at the fact that the license plate is screwed directly into the plastic bumper. How many miles will it take before that puppy works its way loose?

With the size of the screws my dealer used you could rip the bumper off holding the front plate. Welcome aboard.
