Default Something to watch for

When using adaptive cruise control with Eye Sight if there is a car in front of you and they move to either a right or left turn lane and slow to turn, the Eye Sight may interprets this as a the car is still in front of you and slams on the brakes. This is very dangerous as it is something one is not expecting. What happens is the person behind you could collide with your car as there was no reason for you to stop. It is very inconsistent and is now something I watch for.

My system also will not work at night. Any on coming traffic and the system disables. Dealer said it is normal.

As far as disable in bad weather, in snow the system alarms lane departure and has a few times warned of a collision when nothing is in front of the car. So yes it is best to disable at least in Snow.

My feeling is the product was not ready for prime time and needs more development to be worth the price.

I had similar systems (collision avoidance & adaptive cruise) on my 2006 Acura and my 2008 Infiniti. Both worked better than Eyesight. One used microwaves and that was the best. In bad weather or when visibility was low (e.g. sun in eyes) this system still operated normally. IMO when I can't see well I want the collision avoidance system watching out for me. Eyesight doesn't do that. One annoyance with Eyesight is that it won't let me park in my garage close to the front wall, as I have to. It's very difficult to go slow enough that it doesn't slam on the brakes. Neither previous system did that. In fact I assumed that they disabled themselves below 3 or 5mph.

I have Eyesight now on my '13 OB and I like it well enough. But as another said, it has a long way to go.

Then people shouldn't be following so close.

Take your car to another dealer. ES disabling itself at night for on coming traffic isn't normal. Mine certainly doesn't do that. The only time it has disabled itself is because of blinding sun or rain.

I haven't been in snow, but I've been in a strong rain, been in the mountains with lots of snow on road as well as on roadside etc. It's worked exceptionally well in all conditions, turned itself on and in strong sunlight, etc. It's worked very well as adaptive cruise control, and braked appropriately in a couple of close encounters. So I'm impressed and very happy with it so far (2500 miles). My only complaint is you have to be so careful of it, like at a carwash. They should've made covers for it. If you're concerned anout extreme weather operation, why not just turn it off during those times. BTW, I've driven with Saran Wrap over the housing, still seems to work.

Also another feature of Eyesight which can actually benefit you is pull away warning, if your waiting for a light and are distracted, it can chime to let you know the traffic is pulling away from you. The Eyesight system has been tested for a long time in the Japanese market beofre it ever saw the Litigious US market.

And mine is just the opposite with those feelings made stronger after using it in winter bad weather (incl work service calls in blizzard) as well as warmer bad weather (heavy rain, fog).

We might look at "worth the price" differently than you. We lost a family member in a car accident. I'll qualify saying we don't have unreasonable expectations for the product, and said accident was not the driver's fault but we've spent enough time with EyeSight to know it could have helped.

The product is wonderful convenience regardless and accident avoidance and safety systems can help whether it's you or somebody else on the road that has an advanced safety system.

Forget about saving lives and I still think of the idiot who rear ended me in August. His brand new car didn't have EyeSight or anything similar. He hit me while I was at a stop light. His going about 15 MPH didn't hurt anybody but I didn't need the damage and hassle. I'm sure his insurance company feels the same way.
