Default Anybody get Bluetooth MAP to work on a 2011 Outback NAV system?

I just upgraded from iphone 4 to iphone 5 (IOS 6.0.1) and like many others had difficulty getting the phone and audio bluetooth to work like it did before. This thread helped me sort that out but I still can't get the iPhone settings screen that exposes the MAP options (e.g. texts and contacts transfered to the car).

I'm wondering whether the older versions of the NAV system don't implement the newer MAP profile. It looks like only those people with 2013 model cars are having any success.

My NAV information screen says it is Version 4.1 (2), though that may be the version of the DVD containing the mapping data. I wonder if Subaru can update the NAV firmware on older cars to enable this feature?

Not available on pre-2013 Outbacks. The nav head unit is new and from different manufacturer.

So with my iphone 5 I seem to have everything working and no issues save one. I can get my messages on the head untit and read back to me but it errors on any of the replies. Anyone have a fix to that yet? it doesn't matter too too much as I just use Siri to reply but it would be cool to get it working.

oh ya, it's a 2013 OB 3.6r limited w/nav.

I just got a new iPhone 5, and I have a 2012 3.6R Limited w/o nav and can't get the phone to pair, although the audio connects fine. The Subaru dealer said the iPhone 5 isn't incompatible with Subaru's Bluetooth. Not having a hands free phone is a big problem! My iPhone 3G S worked without a problem. Any suggestions or workarounds?

As I posted in another thread, my iPhone 5 with IOS6 has worked well from the beginning, although I've never gotten SMS or email notifications in the car. Thanks to Chrix, I just noticed that Notifications were turned off. Can't wait to try it tomorrow. thanks!

Hi all, thanks to some of you I've been able to get messages now on our 2013 3.6R SAP with the HK 440watt Nav system..

I also realize that many are looking for answers on the older iPhones and 2013's or older not equipped with Nav..

In my situation I too had the notifications option turned off on my Verizon iPhone5.. Once I turned it on I did some testing..

First shot is with my iPhone5 Bluetooth settings screen..

Next is the sub menu for the Multimedia BT connection:

I then established the connection with the car and checked the message settings on the Nav screen:

After that I had my wife send me a text message and when it came in it gave me the option to view or have it read to me.. It read it perfectly and showed thew message on the screen..

At this point I noticed that it gave me the option to reply either by quick response or type in a manual message.. I tried both.. Here is what thje screen looks like in quick response mode..

You can see on the screen the list of quick's you can select or "Free message" (Manual.. takes to to a typing screen..) Notice the bottom part of the screen that gives options once a quick or manual has been selected.. "Edit and Send" come alive once to select a message type.. And here is where it runs into the wall...

As you can see "LOL" is selected.. First attempt: car running and not in drive, E-Parking Brake is on.. Try to send and I get Error.. Tried with car in Accy mode and E-Parking Brake on and no joy.. Same message..

So that's one I don't know how to solve.. One, why would it offer to "Send" a reply and then error?? Subaru issue?? iPhone5 setting?? Verizon Data Block??

Edit:: Here is what the Message Screen looks like once messages are retrieved::

Who knows.. Good luck to those still seeking resolutions..

I have a 2012 OB Limited and Iphone 5 No Nav. Phone and audio paired no issue. It kills me that my wife has a Forester and her signal bars and ease of menu is far superior than that of my OB. The Radio doesnt even show track properly.

Not sure what you mean by it doesn't show the track properly...

I've got a 2012 Outback Premium without Nav and it shows the track title/artist/whatnot just fine. Though the default is the track number. You need to press the "Text" button on the upper right to get it to switch.

Default What is the magic sequence to pair the phone with the car to get it to read messages?

I got my 2013 Outback with the OEM HK Nav head unit to read my text messages and offer reply messages once and only once after upgrading to iOS 6.1 on my iPhone 5 today. it was very cool while it lasted.

Since then, I have tried deleting and re-pairing the iPhone from the Outback bluetooth device list, deleting and re-pairing the CAR MULTIMEDIA device from my iPhone, in all kinds of combinations, and I still cannot get it to work consistently. By "work," I mean just reading the messages, I don't care about the replies at this point, which by the way, are not compatible with the iPhone 4, 4S or 5 according to the Eclipse Web site (look for model avn827ga; although Australian, the site seems to show what the US 2013 Outbacks have installed).

What is the magic sequence to pair the vehicle and the phone such that my messages will be downloaded and read consistently?

I did read here in this forum, that when you pair from the head unit, you should do it as a phone, not as a portable player first.

Should you also enable auto pairing/connection from the head unit or from the device for the best results?

Last, the settings to read messages seem to revert to Off often. Has anyone seen similar behavior?

Thanks in advance for any enlightening experiences or information,

Lambanlaa

I have a 2013 OB Limited w eyesight nav, iPhone 4 iOS 6.0.1. I can receive texts fine, notified when one comes in, sender, and voice dictation of message. However, the system couldn't dictate an iMessage I received today. Has anyone had iMessage texts read to them?
