Not that my oil changes are hard or require a lot of time especially with fumoto valve but that filter on the top of the engine is just too cool

It is nice up there, but it looks funny how tiny it is. On my BRZ the filter takes up the whole cup, on the '13 OB my Dad just bought the filter is about as big around as a beer bottle.

What gives? I keep reading more and more stories about significant problems with someone's Outback. What has happened to the legendary Subaru reliability? I'm I going to regret my purchase down the road???

I had a Honda Accord once that needed a new engine with low miles. It happens.

Well known phenomenon. People who have problems post; the vast majority of people who have none don't. Drive more, worry less.

Welcome to the Internet.

True but with the internet we all have a better chance of hearing about other people who are having a problem.

In 1988 I had a brand new Ford that was having all sorts of problems, my dealer kept saying they have never seen so many problems on any vehicle ever, one day I was getting gas and noticed a guy with a truck like mine at the next pump, I asked him what he thought of his new truck, he laughed and opened up his door and held up a thick manila file and said it's a piece of ******* ****
We sat there talking for about 20 minutes and both of us were having the exact same problems.

Both trucks were bought at the same dealership and both of us had been told that they had never seen so many problems on a vehicle ever.

Before people got on boards such as these you had to basically know or bump into someone who was having a problem or you never heard about it.

I would suggest a bit of reading on the topics of statistical sampling and probability before coming to regret

Another site (truedelta) with a larger sampling than just a forum shows quite the opposite:

You could attribute vehicle age to reported issues, engineering issues, or a host of other things not to mention like any sample, truedelta probably suffers from a case of the "those who get online do so to complain". Drive more, worry less
