My other car is a 1971 VW bus, Ahhh Subaru is LUXURY! Love the bus, glad I only put a 1000 miles a year on it.

Are you attempting to put the dog crate in w/ the back seats up?

I have an 80 pound dog w/ a big crate & w/ the seats down it fits fine. I think I can even have one up & one down & it still fits. (Making sure the crate fits in the car was a requirment for my purchase.)

As for the lack of power locks & actually like the fact they are not power!! We have power locks on our cheap Caravan & I think they are really annoying. It is no big deal to lock & unlock them. This was a feature I like when buying the car.

Apparently what works for one doesn't for another.

Yea I am trying to fit the crate with the rear seats up. I need to carry other folks and the dog. I knew this would be an issue. It was an issue with every 4/all wheel vehicle I considered (I don't want to drive a big gas sucking car especially after driving a TDI that gets 30-36 mpg). I have some ideas on how I will deal with the dog.

As for power locks, I love them. And on a SAP with keyless design, it seems a bit of a contradiction to not have them.

Anyway, my wife loves the car even if I don't. I never said I hated the car; I don't. If the Outback came in diesel (at a list under 40K), I would love the car.

For me, it's road noise. While I know there are noisier cars out there, I'd prefer a quieter interior. Fortunately that can be rectified, which I may do some time.

I also would ask for a little more side bolstering in the seats. Not much, just a little.

And yeah, the nav is lame, but I'm still learning it. My biggest gripe so far is the completely wrong and far-too-frequent "traffic jam ahead" warnings (no way I'm going to pay for that) and the sometimes very late warnings on when to turn - especially when you realize 100 ft from the turn that you are two lanes away. And oh yeah, the screen is extremely cluttered. Hey Fujistu - ever hear of the term "usability study?"

I personally like the on-screen equalizer for the HK sound system. Tweak it a bit and you can get pretty good sound. I agree it's a bit odd that some of the controls (like preset selection) are hard buttons, and others are on the screen, like band selection. But in the end, a button is a button.

Nice!! What magic did you work to get traffic nav working? Several of us are still looking for the secret sauce for that one....

Wow, have to "push a button to lock/unlock. You can use the remote to lock/unlock w/o having to "touch" the car. Warning that you are going to fast? You should be checking all your gauges when driving! As for dog crate, should have brought a tape measure when test driving vehicles!

I have a SAP model, keyless. What's the point of offering keyless and then having to pull the FOB from my pocket?

When I am driving in less familiar places, it is nice to know that I am within the speed limit; out of state drivers are easy targets.

As I noted, I knew the rear was a bit shy, the Outback is marketed as a wagon but is doesn't offer true wagon capacity.

Some people seem to like to denigrate.

Actually, a button is not a button. The onscreen buttons are more distracting to the driver (cluttered screen, smaller, less responsive) than the physical buttons.

Then how the heck are you missing the speed limit signs?

In many small towns as you drive though ID, UT and WY the traffic signs are not always obvious.

Several years ago, I was driving through a small town in UT. It was evening. As a drove though an intersection I noticed out of the corner of my eye what I though might have been a stop sign. Just then, I saw the flashers in my rear view (the cop must have been using binoculars as he was a long ways back) so I pulled over and waited (And waited and waited) until he drove up. HE said, "You missed the stop." I said, "I just barely caught a glimpse out of the corner of my eye, but it was too late." He said, "Yea, it's kinda hard to see the sign way out there." The sign was about twenty ft off to the right in a field. I was polite and he was polite and he let me go.
