Thanks to all for your advice.

I ended up test driving a 2011 Limited, 2012 Premium, 2013 Base, and Forester XT...and finally bought the 2013 Base.

Not a moment too soon either...I was unable to trade in my old car because it died Friday. 2000 Outback Limited For Sale

I pick up my new Outback tomorrow night.

If you are getting a 2012 it may be best to find one slightly used as you may be able to get a better deal and get what you want in terms of options. Many people get into a car loan and then find out they cannot handle it, so these ccars are out there. For me the 2013 is what i went with due to the employee pricing I received as it was at an Indiana dealer who offered it to everyone. As for packages I have a Premium with a Moonroof and all weather and rear seat back protector. It came in at $27,200 with the employee price. I wanted the limited mainly for the leather,, but did not decide to swing the additional cash

I drove a 2012 Premium, and the dealer wasn't going to go as low as I ended up paying for the 2013 Base. And that dealer was caught in a really bad lie, so I walked out of the dealership.

For me very few of the options were a necessity. The stereo is the most important, and I frankly found that I can aftermarket a better stereo for cheaper than upgrading to the HK through Subaru. Genuine leather seat covers are also a heck of a lot cheaper through JC Whitney, if I want them.

After test driving, the 2013 felt the most like my 2000. As in it felt comfortable from the get-go.

I'll miss the dual moon-roof's, but that's about it. I wish Subaru would put a panoramic moon roof into the Outback like the Forester has. That was the only thing I liked about the Forrester.
