An OEM replacement should run in the mid $300's. I'd recommend going OEM. Like others have said, check with your insurance company first.

In my area, local Subaru goes with Safelite. They don't replace windshield themselves - they subcontract that, like many other things that local dealers subcontract (like rag top replacements on convertibles....

ALWAYS worth checking to see what they can do for you.
That's interesting. I had Geico when my windshield was chipped. Safelite did the chip repair for free, but I complained that you could still see the mark, so they replaced the entire windshield with an oem, also for free.

It also varies state to state. In CO, every company except for State Farm provides free chip repair (no deductible or premium increase) under some state law.

I can't help much on the cost numbers but I'd be looking for new insurance. Every insurance option in my area has no deductible for windshield repairs and very low or no deductible for complete windshield replacement.

This is not a chip, its a big crack. Allstate repairs chips for free, but not full replacements. they cannot repair a crack that is bigger than the width of a dollar bill.

I replaced a window 3yrs ago in my old truck. Each window shop will carry different brands of glass. What I found out is that there is actually a difference in glass quality between brands. Some have wide price ranges others have fairly standard prices for what is considered pretty good quality glass. A good glass shop will take the time to explain this and let you decide what you want to do.

In my case the window being replaced was clearly not OEM prior owner replaced it at some point - the glass was not very good quality lots of small voids which did impact visibility to some extent it was cracked though from a rock so I needed to replace it.

The local family shop that replaced the window for me suggested their mid level window given I had mentioned the lower quality of the window we were replacing. The new window was like $30 more than the cheaper one and the quality of the glass was clearly better. I recall it was like $300

$50 less than my deductible, usually.

Sounds like a great price with a heating element. I've replaced windhshields on every car I've owned. My Impreza was the most expensive at >$500. But it was within the first year of a new model. Even my Hyundai was ~$300 without a heating element.

I have Geico and I don't have a sperate glass deductible, it's the same as my comprehensive. It seems that may vary state to state.

Some states have road funds dedicated to windshield replacements you can file a claim against it with the state and get your money back or some of it etc. Most people never bother given they generally make the claim process difficult by design.
