Installed mine right behind rear view mirror and eyesight works without any issues. Ive tested the system in all types of traffic, weather with adaptive cruise etc.

Can you post a pic? I am about to do mine and my first thought was to mount it to the back of the mirror just to comply with the over cautious owner's manual.

Did you check anything else, I'm thinking specifically about the sensors for the auto-dimming mirror, which as I understand are on the rear of the mirror.
