I traded my 2005 Avalanche for my subie. I've owned my 2012 3.6 Limited for just over a year. I still grin every time that I get in it. It tows my boat as good or better than my Avalanche did.

I am very happy with my 2011 Subie 2.5. 14 months and 38k miles so far. I am still learning the car's capabilities. I have the Limited version, and the leather seats, heated seats (awesome) and other amenities make for a nice drive. I am averaging 27-29 mpg, but have seen as good as 34 mpg on a recent trip to So Cal.

A recent trip to my duck club had me driving through water that started touching the sill plates (standing water, no current). I didn't want to trash the car, so I backed out. I then tried a very wet, very muddy tractor road through the rice fields. Slipping and sliding, clawing my way along. I went about 300 yards like this, then decided, again, it was not worth potentially sinking the car in mud. Too narrow to turn around, so I backed out. Glad to say the awd system works in reverse too.

I find myself looking for mild offroad challenges for the car. I have seen what others can do in their Subies, but I am not that brave to damage my $30k car. Maybe in a year or two when the car has a few dings here and there I will be more willing to push the limits.

As for now, unless Subaru comes out with a diesel version, I have no plans to get rid of this great little car.

I've had my '11 OB since Dec 31, 2011 and have loved every minute of owning it. I've always loved Subaru's and I've witnessed firsthand how well they do in the snow (except when I get my OB stuck in the snow with aging stock tires, DOH!)

I have forded rivers, driven to Yellowstone twice, driven from SLC to Seattle and back, driven to Rocky Mtn N.P., been to numerous places in Southern Utah, and been to Great Basin N.P. all with no issues. Already put over 27k miles in a year and half.

I've slept in, cooked in (from the back hatch of course), and hauled numerous friends in it. I've cleaned, waxed, and learned how to maintain this baby and continue to learn as much as I can about it. I love my OB and will only trade it in on a new OB in the future, but for now, I miss it to death as I work overseas for a year and it sits lonely without me. Gonna have to rack up some miles before the 3yrs/36k mile warranty expires soon after I get home!!

Well, after my first 3750 mile service, my dealer (Troncalli Subaru/Jeep) is freakin' awesome as well... Complimentary oil and filter, new car inspection checklist and they washed it. All in less than an hour on a Sat morning. When I think of how many hours I wasted in Honda "mega-stores" waiting for service with mobs of people...

Purchased a '13 in September/October. Took 18 Months to convince my wife to switch from Volvo. We have had 2 Volvo XC70 wagons, an Audi A8, A suburban and a couple of other cars I can't remember!

I needed to switch from Volvo (I got the Volvo hand me down from her) as I didn't want the maintence and repair costs on a new car. The newer ones seem to have increased quality issues, mileage stinks and they are barely selling any at this point.

Since the Volvo had 120k miles on it and reliability is going to start being an issue I wanted her in a car that was as close to bullet proof as possible. I can handle a breakdown if necessary.

The Subaru has the outstanding safety rating and is FAR superior in AWD performance. My wife even commented on how much better the AWD was than the Volvo. Now note, the Volvo was outsanding and I am still driving it and have ZERO problems in heavy snow with Nokian WRG2s under foot. But, the Volvo has significant understeer as it is really a FWD car with rear wheel assist. The Subaru system keeps the car fairly nuetral and more sure footed.

The eyesight is a feature absolutely worth having and adds significantly to the safety factor. Volvo does not have anything even close. Although others have had mixed results, I have found that it works fine in rain and snow and only turned off in the heaviest of weather. It worked 80% of the time in the snow storm in the NE a couple of weeks ago.

It has the same size interior and storage as the Volvo which is what had kept me from considering the 2009 and prior models.

I am really happy I waited for the '13 with the eyesight and the WAAAAAY better looking front grill

We love our Subaru.

I find it almost amusing how many people read into problems and annoyances online and suddenly they see it in their car and it never lives up to some lofty standard.

My wife is the DD of our OB and just the other day she commented how much she really likes the car and how happy she is that we bought it. She is always commenting how much she likes something about it or how nice it drives. She would only trade it for another OB, but we don't plan on that for at least a decade.

I think sometimes on these forums we get too caught up in trying to "fix" our cars to be the ultimate car for everything instead of enjoying what it is. There is also alot of green grass on the other side, until you step into their forums and it's all the same BS.

Enjoy your Outbacks!

Excellent post. It is what it is. Everyone will find something to complain about in any car they buy.

My family was hugely against any car that wasn't American, especially my dad. My dad doesn't like anything not American, he doesn't like AWD/4WD, doesn't like anything that requires an OBD2 test, and doesn't like anything with a timing belt. So I bought my Outback anyway. I like it, no one else has to. And even my friends comment on how nice it is to drive/ride in. Nicer than they were expecting. Go with what you like because you like it, don't let people scare you away.
