I have an employee discount through Subaru. It offers VIP pricing for 2013 Outbacks.Suppose to be at dealer cost, has anyone out there used this before. Is it a better deal than me trying to haggle prices.I plan on getting one in Jan. 2013

Lucky you! Color me jealous. When I try to haggle they suggest I buy a basic model. I just drove the length of California through fog. I am not buying a car without fog lights. Everyone was following me except one car passed, a Tribeca.

VIP pricing is 2% below invoice. Lots of discussion about it on the forum if you try a search. (tip: you can often find more on the forum by doing a google search than you can by using the internal search). I have always been able to get 2% below invoice (sometimes better) without using my VIP pricing so I never really used it.
Here is one link: What's Better deal, Costco or IMBA VIP? You can probably do better by just reading the what did you pay thread here: What did you pay for your 2012 or 2013? |

You can always beat 2% below invoice which is about VIP pricing. VIP looks good, but I think actually benefits the dealer in that they do not have to go lower than 2% under invoice. Generally, you can buy for about $1000-1100 under invoice. I did this in July without any problem on a CVT Premium OB.

I used VIP because I only had to contact the dealers internet manager, got the out the door price for what I wanted , the car was ready for my test drive when I got to the dealers location.
Test drove the car and wrote a check. All this took about one hour and I never had to talk to any salesman. One one screwed with me and that is worth a lot to me. |

I tried to beat the 2%, but at the moment there are no dealer incentives going on. And it did not leave the dealers with enough profit.
In addition to the 2%, the discount includes "Any zone/regional dealer or customer incentives or dealer cash" After the VIP sale the dealer gets a special payment from SOA. The dealer is not doing the VIP sale out of the goodness of their heart. |

vip program was a big reason to buy a subaru. buying process was very hassle free and for us it would not be worth the hassle to try haggling a better price, which might be a little lower, but just a little.
