I have never replaced the crush washer on my daily drivers ever, they don't really cause many issues.

Neither have I, and I don't use a torque wrench unless I am putting an engine back together.

My point was that my drain plug was way overtightened from the factory. Paint doesn't require 80+ foot pounds to break loose. Gorilla Magee tightened mine. I had to use a 6 point socket to avoid tearing up the hex on the plug. That does not help the threads in the pan keep from distorting. Just sayin'.

I agree, I think mine was put on by the Hulk on Monday after Super Bowl. Mine made an audible cracking noise when it finally broke loose, hence the contributing factor comment.

< Incidentally, another argument in favor of Fumoto is thread damage from removal and constant retorquing. Too much twist by an 18 yr old quick lube kid and you can damage the threads.>>

A statoseal is a steel washer with a buna rubber insert. You can find them at McMaster-Carr, search on statoseal. I expect the one will last a couple more oil changes.

I think that the probability of thread damage in a steel pan is less than the probability of having the Fumoto valve ripped out of the bottom by road debris. I do my own changes, wouldn't use a quickie lube for anything.
