Default Subaru Outback Sport Replacement For 2013

For 2012, the outgoing Subaru Impreza Outback Sport will merely consist of a limited set of trim options before it will make way for a completely redesigned model known as the Subaru XV.

While it features the requisite all wheel drive, a taller ride height of 8.6 inches, and body cladding, the XV's appearance is a grand departure from its predecessors and really provides a splash of excitement for the Impreza range.

Available under the hood are a 1.6-liter or 2.0 liter boxer-4 engine with Subaru's new start/stop technology. The XV will also have a CVT transmission to optimize its fuel economy.

While it is unclear whether the name "XV" will be kept, expect to see the Outback's new replacement in showrooms by 2013.

114hp it sounds like. EU gets 147 hp and 350 Nm of torque diesel because these car companies still think our market can't get past the 1970's.

GM's diesel Cruz has been seen hot weather testing in AZ. And GM has actually been posting Diesel Cruz marketing blurbs. If the diesel Cruz generates some interest it could encourage Ford to jump into the diesel passenger car game. Subaru with the AWD probably needs the urea tank to meet US emissions specs and given the dramatic improvement in mileage numbers from the gas versions I highly doubt Subaru would bring diesel here in the next 3-5 yrs. However if we saw a massive spike in fuel costs at the pump that might light a fire to bring diesel here faster.

Sounds like EU spec 2.0D uses a particulate filter to meet Euro 4 specs. Any idea how EURO4 compares to our Tier structure?

I'm new to Subaru and strong considering buying my first one. My wife and I settled on the Outback after a test drive. However we won't actually be purchasing until next year. (We do our research far in advance!). Now I hear the Outback will get a "facelift" in 2013 (likely the year model I will order). I've seen reports the Subaru XV coming to the US in 2013 but it is being reported as the replacement to the Impreza Outback Sport model- not necessarily the Outback. I must admit Subaru model designations are somewhat confusing the a prospective Subaru owner. Does anyone have any news on the Outback 2013? I am looking to buy the 2.5i Limited- loaded. Test drove both Outback engines and for us it the 2.5i. Help!
