Default Even with a subaru shop doing the work.....

A salsman at the dealership was looking for a turbo outback and found one at a small dealership (not a subaru brand dealership) He ran the vin into our warrenty program and discovered it had a turbo failure, (warranty replaced the turbo)then shortly after that the turbo and engine went (Warranty put a new turbo and engine in) a warranty engine is in pieces, (short-block and heads and cams all separate) so the tech must assemble everything.
The car ran good but had a valve sound from the left head. He wanted it fixed so yesterday I was able to get the right valve cover off expecting to find one loose valve (we are human); all 8 on that side were extremely loose.. Well crud, at this point I might as well pull the engine and look at all of them. The left side only had the exhaust valves loose. So using another tech's supply I went about adjusting the valves. it is a time consuming job, but all done.
While I was in there he wanted the oil screens out, no big deal, and a hollowed out up-pipe installed. So as I pulled the turbo off to facilitate the screen removal I discovered the turbo inlet pipe/hose had been cut by someone putting the clamp on incorrectly in the past. So that part is on order.
should replace the engine tomorrow

Anyway, Even tho the Shop says Subaru, it may not have there ducks in a row.....

I never assume the tech at the dealer has any more knowledge than a good independent mechanic. I have heard too many horror stories. Sure, there are going to be some good knowledgeable techs, but I assume the average guy is straight out of UTI.
