Just as summer started its 100 degree days my control panel started to just shut down (the part with the a/c thermostat). Leaving me with nothing (no fan, no stereo, no air.... you get the point). It was not consistent and most of the time it reset when I turned off the ignition but not always. I don't bring intermitent problems to a mechanic.

Two days later, the a/c stopped blowing cold air on and off. Then more off than on. So I then took it to a mechanic (who I trust & have been doing business with for the last 10+ years. *Important detail). They have had my car for a month:(.

List of possible problems/solutions.

expansion valve faulty (the pressure was equal high & low). Replaced.
Replaced the condenser & dryer
Every time I talk to my mechanic he tells me of a new possible problem he is looking into currently. He also said that his computer dosen't communicate with my car. Finally, he asked my permission to drop it off at the dealer because he has exhaused all of his resourses.
How much for this month long exploration? $1600
That is all I have for now. I will post soon when he provides me a list of what he did. Let me know if you have any suggestions. I'm tired of driving my 86 land cruiser

If your H6 has the automatic climate control and 6 CD changer, it could be bad solder joints on the main board in the stereo. There's a number of threads here dealing with similar symptoms, for example:

http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums...2007-outback-3-0r-climate-control-failed.html

http://www.subaruoutback.org/forums...blinking-going-off-randomly-2008-outback.html

The automatic climate control uses a temperature sensor in the cabin. Perhaps the same bad solder problem is also causing misreading of the cabin temperature, leading to the AC turning off intermittently. (Presuming the mechanic has confirmed that when the AC is working properly, all the measurable system parameters such as the line pressures and temperatures are correct. This could leave external parameters, such as the AC on/off signal from the control unit, as possible causes.)
