Advice on 06 exhaust

Hey all you subie guru's.

I have a 06 2.5i outback 87k miles that developed an exhaust leak.
My have a split at the juction of the Y pipe that goes to both of the mufflers.
I've priced the whole pipe out and I'm looking at 250-300 depending on what online seller I use.
I took it to my mechanic that Ive used for my old job and he tried to weld it but didnt do to good of a job .
The exhaust other wise is in good shape .
So my question is has anybody else had this leak and how did ya correct it.
Thinking I may see if there are any local exhaust shops that may try and weld it again.

Take it to a good (non chain) muffler shop. the usual repair is to cut off the leaking (and usually seized) flange and weld a short pipe in its place.
