I think I may have a few broken lines on my window antenna, but I'm not sure if it's intentional since the edges are so clean. Can you all help me confirm whether or not these lines are broken and need repair? I tried using a multimeter to test them, but got no reading. However, I've never used a multimeter before and there's a decent chance I'm just being a dunce...because I also couldn't get a reading across any of my defroster lines. Thanks! (hope you can see what I'm talking about in spite of the reflection)
tell us more about the symptoms you have? am/fm both affected? CD player sounds OK? is it original or replaced headunit? Any work around the dash or the left/rear interior?
I recently determined that the CD player does sound pretty staticy too. I still have poor am/fm reception. Do we suspect the stereo needs replacing? I suppose it wouldn't be so bad since I could put one in with bluetooth calling and all that fancy stuff.
I'm not sure if am/fm are both affected as I never try to listen to am. Definitely the fm reception is affected. It works ok in town (with some static, I guess...especially when I'm parked under a tree or something) but the second I leave city limits, my reception is awful. It's the original head unit and the CD player sounds fine. I can't tell that there has been any work around the dash or the rear quarter panel, but the car is new to me so I wouldn't really know. Thanks for the response!
I'm not convinced there's anything wrong with the window antenna, but there is an amplifier behind the trim under the window (I THINK - anyone know?) and, if it has gone bad(rare), or lost its 12V supply (sometimes happens when radios are swapped) you get poor reception. The radio might also be bad i suppose.
try using the fader and compare front speakers to rear, left to right etc.
but yeah, could be time for a new headunit I guess. Seriously though, speakers go bad a lot. Just had a bad one in my 03 - only 90k miles! And really, my wife doesn't use her radio that much. They are just cheap speakers and get raspy or cut-out, etc.
