This morning I came out to a snow covered Outback. Drove into town and I noticed later that when I poulled the harness out it was wet. looks like it is wet from an area of my shoulder to a more extended portion of the harness. Driving to breakfast, felt some water dripping on my hand, saw that there were wet spots on the edge of the headliner right above my shoulder. Some spots close to front windshield, random locations along the edge above the driver door. Any ideas where I should check to see where leak is coming from ??? Maybe from sunroof, but not wet in areas next to opening.???

Very possible the sunroof drain hose is blocked. Water backs up, overflows the sunroof rail at the side of the sunroof mechanism onto the headliner, and finds its way down and out.
Clean your Sunroof Drain Hose is one of a number of threads here related to this problem. It's probably the front drain hose on the driver's side that's blocked. (It drains out in behind the wheel well liner down to mud flap.) It could also be that the hose has disconnected from the sunroof drain rail -- less common, but possible. If the sunroof is opened, it should be possible to look forward on the driver side rail to see where the water drains out. Try pouring some water into the rail to see if it drains out behind the front wheel, or if it backs up and accumulates in the rail. Note: The sunroof, when closed, isn't a tight seal to the body. Some water will get past the rubber edge, and this is why there are drains at each corner of the sunroof. They're designed to drain this small leakage. But, inspect the rubber seals/edges around the sunroof -- if there's a section loose or broken, more water could get in than the drain can handle. |
