There are AUX accessories, but you might want to consider replacing the entire stereo head unit with a modern one. Modern units also have USB interfaces and they let you control an iPod from the unit. Check on crutchfield.com, they have very good product selectors. Their prices are quite good, and they send you instructions. I was able to replace my head unit, and I have ten left thumbs.

I do not own an ipod, but someone else used one in my car a couple weekends ago by using the radio. Like one of those microphones where you tuned to dead air... I also read a hack somewhere (who knows what forum...) where someone added an auxiliary to their stock disc player, but had to burn a blank disc to use it.

Some ideas.

I agree. The USB interface also allows you to plug in a flash drive full of music if you want.

The instructions on how to do so are on the forum. It'll also sound much better than the stock headunit. On the Gen2, it's very easy to swap it out...it took me no more than a half hour start to finish.

FWIW, I put this one in my 2004 and couldn't be happier with it: JVC Mobile Entertainment \ Receptor de Radio HD doble-DIN - KW-HDR720 \ Specifications

No weather radio I can't believe how cheap that is! Is that representative of stereo prices nowadays? I haven't installed a stereo for almost 10 years, and that one cost about what your JVC does with way less features. No mp3, no AUX anything (it was 2003!) and single DIN.

I asked crutchfield about that and they said there is no weather band found on any unit nowadays. Gotta stick with a Subaru one. If weather band is required, then perhaps finding a more modern Subaru unit would be a way to go. I sure would have loved to have it, but I had to compromise.

I found some doing a quick search. They were marine units mainly, but they exist. Somebody posted a pretty neat Clarion a while back. I don't know if it is still available.

I don't think I would ever use weatherband. I can browse to NOAA's site on my phone in a matter of seconds.

You can go a lot cheaper or a lot more expensive than that one. For me, it does everything I wanted it to (and more). The USB interface is the best thing about it. Throw a bunch of albums on a 16 GB flash drive and I'm good to go!

If your stock player has a 13-pin DIN connection on the back you can build an AUX input. I did this, cost was about $10 and works perfectly.

I don't suppose you've got the pin out diagram for the plug? Where did you get your plug end?

I'd love to build the cable to use the "CD" input on my tape-only headunit.
