If the fuel pump is weak, the flow returning to the jet pump could be below the threshold needed to develop adequate jet pump suction. But wouldn't a weak pump (insufficient flow and pressure) also cause similar trouble signs on straight runs under heavy acceleration?
The jet pump makes use of excess fuel returning from fuel pressure regulator. A malfunctioning regulator might be reducing the flow. (Some regulators have an internal screen that can become blocked. Not sure about the Subaru.) I would imagine that both the pump pressure, and the return flow can be measured to confirm a flow problem. There's also the possibility the jet pump itself is blocked. Not sure exactly what it looks like, but perhaps it's visible enough when the pump is out to verify, and/or to use air to blow clear. But the high level of fuel on the left side does seem to suggest a low level on the right side causing a loss of pickup during the turn. |

Just to answer the question on the fuel pressure regulator. I took one apart when trying to retro the Aeromotive into the car for higher pressure, otherwise I wouldn't have a need to. There is no screen. Pintle, spring, diaphram and valve. Simple. That's why they last so long.
Never could make it work the way I wanted to so went with plan B. Its working. |

OK Guys, got it working properly.
First I bought a new fuel pump assembly. When I got the old pump out, I found that the pickup screen on the pump was really plugged with crud and also the jet pump was not pushed all the way up on the tubes it mounts to. With the fuel level showing under 3/8, it now corners fine. Couldn't test it lower right now as it is supposed to snow really hard, so I filled the tank again. Also as a point of interest, the pickup is on the left side of the right side of the tank, letting it go dry with with the fuel sloshing during a left turn. Thanks for all your help Dick |

Thanks for the update, and the references to the jet pump. Interesting that both the screen and the jet pump were obviously not in good shape. I presume that the mis-aligned jet pump might explain why it wasn't working.
Do you still have the old pump? If so, would you be able take and post some photos of the pump, and especially the screen and the jet pump, so that we can better relate your description to what is actually seen? |
