Drivetrain Vibration

Hi there!

Recently my car developed a low pitched vibration at 55 mph in 5th gear. I took it to a shop and they inspected the drive shaft and said the u joints were stiff.

However, I have doubts that it's the drive shaft because the vibration is intermittent. Sometimes its very loud and sometimes its barley noticeable.

Also, there is an occasional clunking when putting it in 1st gear, 3rd gear became more difficult to shift into and I'm getting quite a bit of drive train movement. Could it actually be the transmission mount failing?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You should re-inspect the drive-line. I had a similar complaint on a customer car and discovered that one of the u joint caps had worked its way out damaging the bore of the front yoke and ruining the center carrier bearing along with it. It was an easy but expensive fix for 600.00
