I bought a 2.2 that supposedly only has 51k on it to throw in my outback with a blown motor. Dropped it off at the shop and hopefully it will be done next week. Can't wait to get it back.

Just parked her back in the driveway after a couple of successful test drives. I bought the car cheap over Thanksgiving knowing it needed a rear wheel bearing. Ended up replacing both passenger side bearings in a short time.
Then my radiator sprung a leak at 165,000 and it was headgasket time. I pulled the motor, put new Felpro headgaskets, separator plate, all the seals, oil pan, etc. Put new timing belt, tensioner, idlers and water pump on. New radiator, new oem rear seal and thermostat. New water hoses. NGK wires and Iridium plugs. It's running like a watch and I'm hoping I can now just drive it for the next 150,000 miles. We got 3-4 inches of snow today and ice is on the way. So I'm just in time for tomorrow morning's 55 mile commute into Milwaukee. I love this board! |

Well. I had cats needing replacing(as per my Subaru mechs recamendation of a full new exhaust from start to finish) and needed a tune up (p0304 intermitent misfire) Dropped the front half of the exhaust manifold included. Changed the plugs from a Bosch platnum +2 and genaric wires and wires to NGK iridiums and NGK wires while I had the extra room to work with. Manifold was also needing replacing so a put in a Borla knock off I got on amazon (nice fit no issues) Felpro gaskets, magaflow cats, Denso direct fit oxygen sensors. Resonator pipe was new in September, muffler seems ok for now. First fire up checked for leaks and found them, second fire up no issues, no CELs anymore. Sounds a little meaner now. She runs like a top now. All the parts fit well and worked the first time. No complaints about the job. Took a whie in a cold garage on a February day in Minnesota. Next is the timing belt. Debating doing the one myself or hiring out. Intake and shifter I will do myself after.

Jwilde, timing belt is really not that big of a job. Read up on this forum and youtube it, there are a lot of good links. There's an arrow and a square notch on the crankshaft gear. Disregard the arrow and use the square notch for timing.

You know, I'm on the fence because I use my car for work. I think I could do it with enough time. It needs belt, all seals, head gaskets were supposedly done by previous owner. But as I've owned the car I feel he was a hack at best. If he did the had gaskets why didn't he just do everything while he had the engine out of the car? Yes, he told me he took the engine out to do the oil leak in the back of the engine also. Then why do I need to to valve cover gaskets? did he just reuse the old ones? I Really should have done them yesterday but time crunch was on). If I'm going to do it, I will do it all and right. New oil pump and water pump, seals, pulleys, pelts and timing cover.

Swapped my Bluetooth enabled stereo from my old daily driver to the OB and fixed the coolant leak left over from the 2.2 swap. Turns out it was the hose going from the IACV to the crossover water pipe, I decided to just replace both of the hoses coming off the IACV to be safe. Next I need to tackle the keyless entry issue, either get the darn thing into program mode, or cut the wire going to the horn. I hate the honk when closing the doors.
