as no one gets 2 together and compares, or gets through a install to report.

the output shaft shape maybe different. causing the difference in part numbers.

or the VDC version may have slightly different electrical plugs for a extra sensor wire.

_______

the places you buy from "should" have a return clause so you can get yours side by side with the donor trans to see.

does yours have the mechanical VTD without the electronic VDC?

are you sourcing donors from local Kiwi / Aussie market used,...or JDM?
I'm trying to source from a Kiwi suppler second hand. I have not been able to find anything that matches up exactly with the numbers and am having a **** of a time getting any info on what will or will not fit. There are heaps of 4EATs from 2.0 turbos but from rumor the gearing is different. I've found one from a H6 but is has VDC and mine does not. Do you know of any resource to see what automatics will interchange? Mine is a 2002 Legacy GT30 H6 with the original trans being a tv1b4yveaa.

Didn't mean to hijack a thread, will start a new one if needed.

If all else fails, read the instructions.

on this thread member @cdc posted a chart concerning his search for a manual for his Ej251 outback wagon

Transmission identification

there maybe more charts out there,... that are more accurate

I would consider posting a question or looking for similar charts on
legacygt.com

and the Ultimate Subaru Message Board is also out there with good people.
