Infotainment system EQ is whack

I can turn the three lowest EQ settings all the way down and I still get a ton of bass coming out of the speakers. I figure if I have everything 400hz and lower turned to the absolute lowest setting all of the bass should be filtered out, but it doesn't...at all. I am highly disappointed, and hope they come out with an update.

I was so extremely happy when I went to change the EQ and saw that it was a 7 band EQ...and then I couldn't get the bass to go away. I want to mention I am not talking amped-subwoofer bass, just regular door speaker bass that is overwhelming a lot of the times. I mostly listen to Sirius/XM on a variety of channels.

without me looking up something I don't own,...

is there some preset setting overriding / augmenting the manual EQ.?

like the thing is stuck on Rap and you want it on spoken word talk?

and I would recommend you stick a couch pillow up against the bass (subwoofer) just to make sure as such a sounds are none directional and a little goes along way when the head unit /amp settings are wrong.

So I guess that means you are supposed to set the genre first, start listening and then manually adjust the EQ if you hear to much base etc??

Is this the procedure in the owners manual, I still read my owners manuals, got one a foot away from me. But have also been known to read it while sitting in a parking lot waiting for someone else to get out of a store etc.

I guess if you -all could read a few pages a day you would be done with it in less than a month.

a thread like this is in the Gen4 section, that I also posted on::rolleyes:

The Infotainment EQ has preset genres, but also has two user platforms titled EQ1 and EQ2. All preset genres and user bases can be adjusted to your liking.

I've searched through the owners manual, but it does not accurately reflect the actual infotainment system in the car. There are a lot of discrepancies. I work with tablets, PCs, mobile devices, and car audio everyday so I am very competent in this field.

The EQ sucks and that is unfortunate. Subaru needs to do something about it.

I rather have an onscreen EQ than the older Subaru vehicles that have Bass +/-1,2,3, Treble+/-1,2,3 etc etc. It's not exactly the best but given that not many people mess with settings like that or care to, its definitely something to play with. I've messed with car stereos (head units, mobile screens, etc) in the past. Although it is fun and all, I appreciate what Subaru has done for us to allow some kind of customization. Otherwise, installing a head unit + an aftermarket EQ would be a whole other side to this.

Listened to FM radio for the first time today and the audio quality sucks. It switches from HD radio to normal FM back and forth too frequently. There's no option to blend the two like on my previous aftermarket kenwood. At least you can toggle HD radio on and off and just use the FM. But the quality is pretty low. Reception seems to be an issue. Wonder if we can increase it with a better antenna?

I can't speak for the regular audio quality of the FM radio because I haven't heard it but HD Radio kind of sucks unless you are at home. Signals are never consistent. I have always kept it off in my current car but the stereo doesn't have a blending option which sounds like a nice workaround. Does it sound consistent when blending or do you notice the audio quality changing? I do find it odd that in 2014 there would be any FM reception issues as you report. I guess I'll see when I get the vehicle.

Losing the HD signal is an issue from the FCC. The power of an HD signal is much lower than the analog signal. I have a station with three HD's and am well aware of the lower signal. If you live in a larger city with taller buildings this issue is even more pronounced. You can always turn off the HD if you are experiencing this issue but if you are local HD will sound good. While WIFI is a more important issue in the FCC's mind, hopefully they will allow stations to increase power on their HD's to follow the analog signal.

This is so strange....stopped at the dealership today (Friday) and much to my surprise the salesman could not reproduce whatever he did to bring up the EQ screen. In fact no one at the dealership could find it and we tried several 2015 limited models with NAV on the lot in case I changed some crucial setting that was preventing accessing the EQ adjustment. They're supposed to follow up with Subaru for the solution. I did show them who the owners manual is showing screens that are very different from the actual screens....very annoying. I'll let you know if they have an answer.

Anxious to hear of any updates from anyone regarding this. I also just purchased the Limited w/o Navigation and can't access the equalizer screens either. Nor can I find the setting screen to set the speed variable control, etc. I contacted the dealer who said it might only be a feature of the limited's with Navigation, but it seems others on this thread w/ Nav also having the same problem.

Has anyone been able to get into the other setting screen either to set the speed variable control?

I drove a Limited OB with NAV today and couldn't find the equalizer. In addition, I brought my flash drive with me to hear my music on the HK system. The system did not show the USB flash drive and did not work. The salesman couldn't get it to work either. I checked the settings and found an iPod USB autoplay function. I tried checking it and unchecking it and it still didn't work. The salesman tried my drive in another Subaru, not a 15 Outback, and it played fine. Anyone else try the USB port?
