List of reported issues/General Info (2015)

I thought it would be nice to have a post that stays up-to-date with reported issues, possible resolutions and general tips. This list may include user-error/confusion issues as well. People are more likely to post about issues then non-issues so do not take this list as indication of widespread problems.

Please add any additional issues/update/corrections in a reply and I can update this first post.

General Info: All Outbacks for U.S. market are built in Lafayette, IN. Your vehicles production date is located on sticker near bottom of drivers side door.

Online owners manual can be found on Subarus Resource Center.
If you want a single PDF file that is easily searchable I created these:
Outback Owner Manual PDF
Navigation Owner Manual PDF
Outback Owners Manual + Navigation Manual PDF (applicable to all Outback owners even without Nav option)
Outback Owners Manual + Navigation Manual + EyeSight Manual PDF

Resolution: Page 8 of Owners manual: You may hear a noise from under the vehicle approximately 5 to 10 hours after the engine is turned off. However, this does not indicate a malfunction. This noise is caused by the operation of the fuel evaporation leakage check- ing system and the operation is normal. The noise will stop after approximately 15 minutes.

Resolution: Reportedly normal. The rear window "sprayer" is subjected to much different aerodynamics then the windshield wiper sprayers.

The cause for the error is said to be from the car losing battery power.

Miscellaneous Verifications
Items that should be checked in addition to those above before or shortly after driving off the dealer lot.
  • Engine oil level
  • Passenger side has floor mat holders
  • Airflow for each vent is fairly equal (some have had one vent that had noticeably reduced output)
  • Cruise control works
  • Power lift gate opens and closes properly (if equipped)
  • All accessories on your invoice/vehicle order are included.
  • USB ports work? How do we properly verify this?
  • Missing items? Does anyone have a complete "contents inside this box" list?

Updates:

Has anyone brought up the Infotainment system not displaying simple things like song and artist name with FM or a CD is playing? Is this normal?

I feel like on such a new car, and such a "top of the line" audio/navigation system, a simple thing like a song title should come easy. It seems like so much space is wasted when you are playing a CD and all it says is "Track 4" (with a nice picture of a CD beside it to boot).

Anyone?

3 beeps (gate) DEFECTIVE SENSITIVTY? 2015

I turned my Outback around - went out my drive backeards and turned it around and drove back in and I had to reset my gosh darn lift gate because it went to "ajar" i guess.
What the heck?

All I did was a little bit of a chassis twist during the turn around out and back in my drive, and it judged a fail and cancelled my functioning tailgate.

I had to do the dance to get it back to operation. (thank goodness for the manual stating the steps needed)

I can't believe it did this!

Anyone else?

Seems too sensitive to body twist in my view.

It's the wifes car so I MADE her watch every step of the reset to be sure she could do it on her own... ( yeah... right)

anyone else?

Very good job Destitude.
GF just picked up her '15 OB on Monday and I went through multiple pages of the forum for things to look for in the new car. You put together a great list.
She waited exactly 6 weeks from the order date (9/22) to delivery date (11/03). 3.6R Limited package #23 and pp #5.
I mentioned the petition regarding the wind noise to the dealer about 3 weeks before pick up date and the quarter windows were replaced before delivery. Fingerprints all over the quarter windows and plastic over the driver's seat kind of ripped apart (from someone sitting in it). We did not drive test the car on the highway yet but she did go over 40 mph and there was no noise. Very quiet car. More thorough inspection this weekend.

Anything I may be missing? My dealer is two hours away, hence my concern of pre-check as well :) I plan on trying everything I can think of but the list is at least the items that must be checked before-hand.. I don't want to drive off and an hour later try to put gas in the vehicle only to have the gas cap cover stuck :D

I picked up my new 2015 2.5 Ltd Outback with Eyesight and POP Pkg 5 on 11/8. Got on the highway leaving the dealership and turned on the cruise control on and multiple warning lights came on including the parking brake light. I pulled over and called the dealer, they asked several questions and had me turn off the vehicle. I did and lights were off. Hung up and started down the highway, turned on the cruise control and it started all over again. Called back to the dealer and they asked me to return to the dealership. After about an hour they came out and said they didn't know how to fix it and gave me a loaner car( with very little gas). They said they would call SOA on Monday and get their input. This all happened after I had to wait an extra hr. for my delivery because the vehicle wasn't prepped when it was supposed to be. I called down today and they said it was diagnosed as a wheel sensor(?), they had to order it, and it would be ready for me on Wed 11/12. This is my first time with this dealership and my first Subaru. It can only get better, right???

Somewhere on this forum is a description and discussion of some 20+ pages of dealer prep items that e dealer is supposed to complete prior to vehicle delivery to the customer . . and if completed thoroughly would take a dealer a couple of days to do properly I'm sure. In Canada there is a ~$1,700 charge for delivery and PDI. I know!!! Notwithstanding that that charge is rediculous in the first place . . it's hard to reconcile the charge with all the incidences of apparently incompetent and incomplete (according to Subaru's own check list) dealer pre delivery inspection. I think we all have justification in asking for the PDI charge to be removed from the OTD price, or at least reduced to a couple hundred $ based on apparently what is 'not' done during the dealer prep, OR (and I'm retired so would have the time to do this) . . insist on being present for the entire dealer prep process with a copy of the list in my hands and monitor that every item is completed >:)

Awesome post. Thanks for taking the time. I am expecting delivery in the next 10 days and added to your list:
[*] Check fan output at each vent location
[*] Check for sticky buttons / latches and operation of each
[*] Check engine oil level
[*] Check Tire Pressure
[*] Check for missing stuff (Cargo cover, spare tire, jack tools,)

good news

Picked up our Outback on Sunday and ran through this checklist. The good news is that, so far, I have found nothing to complain about! Body panels fit nicely, no paint flaws or scratches found, climate blower sounds normal, features/buttons/latches work as advertised. 5 miles on the odometer, oil level spot-on, body plugs installed, ...
I have not been on the highway to verify triangle window fix, cross-wind window seal noise, or loose-chrome vibration. Current temps have been below 25 degrees F, so I can't confirm AC is perfect. I need to find the thread and report if the infotainment software has been updated on the production line.
Just 1 data point but my car, built in November, seems very well executed!!!!

I'm not sure if anyone has had a similar issue, but I don't see it listed in this thread and I'm not sure what's going on. We have a 2.5i Limited Opt #23 PP #5 , and we're hearing some odd sounds coming from the engine. It's definitely lock step with the throttle (or RPMs), so it something possibly mechanical in the engine. What it sounds like is 'clank clank clank clank' but pretty much synced with the RPMs. It seems to decrease at higher vehicle (or engine) speeds. My wife is the primary driver and she complained to me, I have driven it occasionally and I was the one that drove it off the lot. I never noticed it before until just recently, it just seemed kind of extreme. It's possible that that is just what the engine sounds like after it's broken in a bit, which is fine. It's just that it did not sound like that before so I want to make sure there's not a problem.

There's about 2300 miles (2 months), took care during the break-in period but there was a longer, primary highway trip in there.

First thing I did was check the engine oil, that all checked out. Next thing I did was scroll through the manual, then through the threads here but haven't found an answer. I'll be contacting a local dealership to get their take but figured it'd be most efficient if people here have already debugged, sometimes the service guys haven't seen all the issues yet.

I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this, I can generate a new thread if necessary, doubly sorry if this has already been addressed in a separate thread.

My 15 seems to have the same noise. I only have 1,200 miles and I have had the oil changed(5 months) It seems almost like an internal bearing noise. My dealer said it is normal. I can replicate it by revving the engine in park also. It sounds less refined than my 10 OB with the EJ series engine

Ok thanks, I'm going to bring it in and have them listen to it just in case. Maybe it's just how it sounds after awhile, it's mostly in a lower gear/lower RPM setting that it's most noticeable, so lots of stop/go driving you hear it, but it wouldn't be real noticeable on the highway. It's kind of like if you were to isolate just the metallic mechanical sound of the engine and then amplify it. Would be hard to believe there's any major issue if none of the warning lots are popping on, but anytime you hear a mechanical sound like that it's coming from some type of material on material contact, want to make sure those materials are supposed to contact...
