Hi All!
Where do you guys get replacement parts from? Are there any discount sites?
I am looking for things like air filters, oil filter, bulbs, etc.
Has anybody tried Subaru Parts | Subaru Accessories ? Are they reliable / good prices?
I usually prefer doing the minor maintenance items myself on my vehicles, and most likely it will be that way with the Outback as well, so looking for a reliable source with good prices.
Best deals will be on generic parts through places like Amazon and rock auto. And for most items, they are just fine for your car. A few specific items should be sourced from Subaru for best results, but you should be aware that no automaker can require you to use a specific brand of replacement part, nor can they deny warranty claims related to such parts. Federal law since 1975.
There aren't really any sales outlets for genuine Subaru parts, other than the dealers themselves. Some dealers operate their own websites for direct sales to the public, and that's what you linked to. There are a number of them, some have better prices than others, and some have better shipping rates and policies than others.
If I remember correctly, subaruonlineparts.com is a supporter of this forum, if that means anything to you.
I've been getting things like filters and other regular maintenance items from subaruonlineparts.com and have been perfectly happy with them. I buy oil filters by the case for the volum price break and air filters and other things one at a time as needed.
Never a problem.
It may be that there are other vendors selling the same OEM parts for a little less money, I haven't looked.
Oil filters and such are not the kind of thing where I spend a bunch of time looking to save a dollar here and a dollar there. I only need two of them per year, so a bunch of time invested to save maybe the price of a cup of coffee every 12 months is just not worth it to me.
Thanks guys!
I usually buy filters (engine air, oil, cabin) in higher quantities (like 6-8 each) such that I have them available, especially if I can get a decent discount. I'll try subaruonlineparts.com.
For the filters (oil, air, and cabin) I find that NAPA is hard to beat, both for quality and value. That is of course, if you buy filters during their semi-annual filter sale. I do the same that you do, and buy several at the same time. The NAPA Gold filter is the same as the Wix filter.
If you choose to stay with Subaru filters, I personally found that I can negotiate better prices with my local Subaru dealerships than I get from any of the online discount Subaru parts sites. That has been the case at least for oil filters, wiper blades, coolant, and CVT fluid. Although I ended up converting to the NAPA Gold filter before doing so, my dealership was willing to give me a pretty good price for oil filters in quantity, and the price was better than the online sites. I've found that it pays to not be afraid to ask the parts attendant what discount they can give me. In fact I play them against each other, telling one that the other gives me a particular discount, and will they beat it?
I have a NAPA shop down the street and despite what people have said they go above and beyond to take care of me. I've bought almost everything that didn't have to be purchased from subaru from them and been happy. I needed a new driveline and found a decent one for about $500 after shipping and taxes. I went in and talked to them and they quoted me $520 shipping not included. I asked if there was any way we could get it cheaper and he worked with me and got to me for $400 shipped. It got there and was a perfect fit, even had upgraded u joints.
Bought a CV axle from then, $120 on sale. And again despite what I've heard the axle looks great and is performing like a champ. Got my timing belt, and almost everything else from them too.
I did find some really good deals on Subaru blue oil filters on amazon. It's sold from subaru genuine parts, which has their own website but also sells through Amazon. Prime shipping I think yes. I would recommend the Subaru oil filters on any performance model WRX, XT, BRZ, or STI.
Like others have said your dealer is also great. My dealer recently sold me two OCV valves for $94 a piece when the retail at $120. So... Shop around, and honestly if a place offers great prices but has poor customer service I would buy the part from somewhere with better customer service despite the fact it costs more.
Also ralley sport sells a lot of stuff including cam locking tools. They are awesome and if you live in Salt Lake city Utah they are located there, and have a storefront!
