Our blower motor just started making noise. It's more noticeable on low setting, and can be drowned out by increasing radio volume. We pulled the blower and you can hear it when you spin the cage. The end of the motor shaft is rusty. Is there any way to lubricate this?
2015 Outback 2.5 premium 44,000 miles so it's out of warranty. There is nothing in the cage, clean cabin air filter.
I would use a Dremel or brush with a wire-whisk to remove the rust and add some lithium grease to the shaft. That will also protect it pretty well from corrosion.
Mine started making a little bit of noise last winter, and as luck would have it I already had a visit to the dealer scheduled to replace my tailgate motor. I mentioned the noise and they replaced the blower motor the same day, no questions asked. I think it was kind of a clicking noise. Not loud at all.
I had a similar noise from the blower in my 9 year old Impreza and no amount of cleaning or lubrication would correct it. Bit of a PITA to get the thing out - if the OB is anything like that, I wouldn't even consider DIY. You have a warranty. Use it.
I had a "ticking" noise when the blower was on low. I took into the dealer and they heard nothing; i.e. Sargent Shultz; know see & hear nothing.
After looking through the various threads regarding dash noises, I found the problem to be the 2 green small bell shaped caps attached to rubber hoses form the core by the firewall.
Once I secured them with some electrical tape the "ticking" went away.
Mine has recently started making a strange "whirring" noise, hard to describe and a smartphone video probably won't pick it up too well. Really noticeable at lower speeds, but gets drowned out at higher speeds by the air rushing.
Didn't think anything of it, but after seeing this I'll have the dealer listen to it when I get the parking brake recall fixed and my rattling sunglasses holder checked out.
