Aftermarket ANDROID Headunit

This is first without metra mounting frame that i know, finally.
Could someone native English speaker do some more investigation?
Does OEM gadgets work? like HF mic, reverse camera, steeringwheel controls, etc?

EDIT:

I got some answers, for my car they told me it is plug&play installation, so i did order.

There is some diffrences in our HU´s so Ask from seller first
I got the best assistance via aliexpress and George Huang from Canavie Technology

You'll need some adapters with that one as well, similar to aftermarket units currently available. Here are the rear connections from my 2016 Premium, no nav, no HK. The bottom black part with the BT00 sticker is the telematics unit:

Here are the rear connections for the one you posted:

Don't think any factory connections will fit, at least not from the USDM.

I just noticed that they have updated new pictures. More about wiring and connections.
Hope that it will fit with my Basic HU without external harman cardon Amp.

Its me again talking by my self.
I hope SVXdc and you other clever guys can comment something?

Did some study and reserch last night, I found this attached pin out from some other subaru community.
Compairing new adater cabel pictures from android unit, i did notice these with a lot guessing:

-Connectors will fit
-There is something in heatshrink with camera connector, It is probably 6v buck converter what we need.
-There are no canbus pins (We can also make car settings in cluster display so no need for CAN)
-There here is AC communication pins. ( I cant use ac control in my language anyway, so some one else has to do reseach)
-Radio sub antenna is not in use, but main antenna is. (wtf is sub antenna anyway?)
-There is no XM antenna (in here we dont have it anyway)
-My non nav has no GPS antenna ( But ill get external one with new HU)
-There is pins for AUX so OEM AUX can probably work? But new HU has also 3.5mm stereo female? ( this can be for new external Mic? Or stereo input in parallel with another AUX?)
-OEM microphone pins are not occupied, but there is mic hole on face i hope it work well. (According many sites, subaru uses some wierd OEM 5v mic)
-I cant use OEM USB panel, but it can make a new one with some cheap panelmount extension leads. (For example this for 2xUSB ) Maybe someone makes adapter later...
-There are no speed or parkingbrake signal for videos and stuff. (i like it, but it may be required somewhere)
- Pins 19, 21, 22, 23 for MIC? I think these can be "Call", "Answer", and "Voice Control" buttons in steeringwheel?

NOTE, There can be mistakes in my comparison pics.:8:.

I has to be, i have seen same devices with 4.2.2 in.

Anyway, these car devices drag behind always, but cant be worse than our Fujitsus without mirrorlink 1.1
I have 1 year old car, and it wont work properly with my 4 year old Note3 phone. :banghead:  :moon:

EDIT: There was "add" before this.
Please just ignore following...

You are selling those and made account... Isnt this against forum rules?
I sent you also same questions, got so silly answer... then nothing at all... Bad communication.
No expertise what selling, No help for connections, No support at all, and worse seller ratings...

I like my telemetry too much to swap headunits.

I like the xmode illustration so i can see what is getting power and what is not for positioning
I like the temp and other stuff that i get

If i was going to upgrade, it would be for a REAL headunit. Not some junk like this that just looks pretty but is as useful as our stock headunit in terms of performance.

Right now I adjust it periodically; I play music from a USB stick and podcasts from my phone. Both devices have separate playlists depending on whether my daughter is in the car or not. I also like checking some of the vehicle info on the odd occasion.

Of course the big thing is having good navigation on the head unit. Secondary would be a better EQ, higher power ratings, other apps like Google Now and Torque (vehicle info on Android), and cosmetic things like a visualizer and customizable lights. Presumably there'd be better voice control with Google/Siri than what we have now.

Aftermarket head, especially if it's android based, could significantly improve bluetooth audio quality since it will likely implement all the correct codecs so that the phone and the head unit can negotiate a good common one.

I have the HK head but I would like to have one that has android auto..

Just a quick update, got my HU today, im in the middle of installation but had to come in and eat something.

Plug&Play = TOTALLY Check
Power on.... WHOAAAH what a display!!! :surprise:

Steering control, = Easy setup Check ( brobably make some tuning later)
Reverse camera = No signal... wrong gamera RCA... Check, No lines on picture. Lines in reverse camera ON from setup... DONE.
Gps check.
Wlan check
Phone connection check
Oem mic not supported, But there is extra one. Compaired front panel and extra Microphones both fine. Leave extra one in package for now.

To be continued...

I took my device without 3g modem, i have unlimited data in my phone so i use it as wifi hotspot. Also wifi in my garage.
Ask George 3g instruction manual.

I have some other projects now, but will get you some info soon.

Edit:
Google maps installed from apk file because there is no google play store.
Gmaps working fine!

Few word about installation.

Removed parts, took out HU and AUX unit, and tree clips.
I had to remove three upper white clips from HVAC unit (In pic last one still on its Place),
THEY ARE PITA TIGHT on new units sharp edges, Just take THEM OFF, it holds fine without them.
Mounted GPS antenna on center speakers empty place ( Why this pic goes always upside down?)
Routed new USBs trough hole. (I have later plans for these)
Then some random spaghetti and hardware pics.
Whole installation took me less than hour.

And some finished photos.

Now its time to see how it really works... Big improvement anyway from my basic cheapo HU!

I got manual for older version, i do not know are there better updated ones incoming... :8:
Functions are about the same in this.
IMHO this is so simple to use if you have some experience from android devices, so no need for guidance.

Google Play still not working, it need probably google services also and that is some tricky one to manage, ill pass it for now...
I have found every one of .apk´s from elsewhere so not a problem for me.

Some update and using in my HU,
Tested navigation on road, google maps is fine, but Here WeGo which i like most with offline maps, working like charm.
Ill never EVER miss mirrorlink or android auto again, all i need is in HU now, or can be installed later.
I tested also CarHomeUltra, DashDroid and fev similar "dumb interphases", i did not like them at all. :headshake
Maybe usable in a small cellphone but this size screen, buttons are size of my fist. :grin2:
Next some Nova Launcher testing.

I installed Torque pro also with custom pid´s for subaru. now im fiddling with my new virtual gauges and themes.
Bluetooth connection with my cheapo obd scanner running fine.
Also made few steering buttons adjustments. Now i have Speech as Home button and List as Navigation
MX Player working as my preferred audio/video player with better equalizer and options.

Next one to investigate is gsm remote app for my Eberspächer Hydronic heater.

I use Nova launcher as well and couldn't make it stick on the bottom in landscape mode. I read online that Apex launcher can do this. Haven't tried.

Your head unit is looking good and I'm looking forward to ordering it as well now that you've confirmed Google maps works.

Not sure I'll be able to install it myself or not - I've never worked on a car stereo before. Hopefully there are some YouTube videos showing how to replace an outback head unit. If you can recommend any how-to videos that would be great.

What is the startup time like on the head unit? Is it slower to start up and start playing music than the original? How fast to boot to homescreen from starting the car?

I did try many lauchers, i think nova is still the best for this unit.
Made a another home screen with new wallpaper and some gauges with torque. I had to install custom pid´s to get all diesel parameters out.

I also found my old 3G to wifi dongle, took a small (slow and cheap) data packet SIM to it and put it in car.
Now all widgets update even without phone tethering.

IMO forged all screen mirroring crap, just use a tablet, or buy unit with android and use it for running apps. :29:
You can imagine this HU like any other tablet, but this has also FM radio, internal amp, sw controls, and rev camera.

Looks good. One more question...

Is there a way to still use hands free Bluetooth phone connection through the Android head unit like with the original head unit? In other words pair your phone via Bluetooth to the head unit and use the head unit to receive and make calls hands free?

Mirrorlink confimed working with my Samsung Note3 (android 5.0)
I used this guide:
Blog - How to Get MirrorLink Work on Pumpkin Android 4.4 Car Stereo (for Android Phone Users)

1. Open Easy Connected .apk from unit. (i had it allready installed. can be found with google also.)
2. After install the app successfully, go to your Android phone's Settings and click Developer options. (Was not active in my phone, i had to use google how to activate it in this phone)
3.Then turn on the USB debugging from developer options.
4. Plug the USB cable into your Android phone, then go to the HU Easy Connected app. These two devices will connect automatically.

"Drive mode app" appeared in my phone, but i can exit and everything is mirrored just fine.

Easyconnected seems to support IOS also but i can´t test it.

If you have some time and don't mind, I'd love to see a quick video of the unit from the cabin. Get a sense for how it looks in the dash, bootup time, running through some hands-free commands, and viewing the rear-view camera.

Appreciate all of your documentation in this thread thus far. Thanks!

Hi. do i like it.... Hmm... YEAAAH :jump:
This kind of unit is a MUST in modern car.

There was a minor flaw, display autodim function did not work properly in my keyless type outback.
Did some measurements in my car and i know now why it does that.
I managed to fix it with my basic electical skills, and may be the only one now who has this feature really working as installed in Subaru

If you still thinking GO AHEAD. But CONTACT seller first to confirm it can be installed in YOUR model.
I have contacted seller, to contact factory to ged it fixed in other new units.

Ps. there is no way to ged google play with this firmware, but i have found ALL that i need from alternative services.
AND there IS a way to update unit...
