I just got the car 2 1/2 weeks ago. I'm putting off buying tires, wheels, and TPMS until the fall. I intend to run the Nokian studless friction tire, not a studded tire so the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV. I used the studded Nokian on my body-on-frame SUVs since 1998 and the Hakkapeliitta Q and Hakkapeliitta R on my VW GTIs since 2001 with a brief experiment with Blizzak where the tires lost their grip at 12,000 miles. The R2 is the most recent version of the Nokian studless tire.
TiresByWeb.com has the 17" tires for $163 with no tax and free shipping. I'm probably going to do 17" OEM Subaru alloys. By the time I add in TPMS at about $50 each and mounting/balancing/TPMS programming at the tire shop, I'm looking at $1,700. I hate having to do this with every new car but stock tires are lousy on black ice
