My wife and I both ride on the street, she does track days, I am a roadracer for 9 years now. She's got a 2004 ZX6RR and I've got a 2007 ZX10R. I'll post pics, have to re-size them first......
We ride Kawasaki exclusively, for various reasons. I've done some instructing, and recently had the opportunity to instruct for Sportbike Tracktime, but I declined at this time. |

Well, I just went off my meds again and bought another bike. I have wanted a Suzuki DRZ for a long time now, and when I saw a street legal DR-Z400E pop up on CL for 2300 bucks, I had to jump on it. I picked the bike up for $2100, and I am very happy with it. It is definitely a real animal compared to my XT. Which isn't surprising considering the DRZ has 2.5 times the HP, and weighs the same as the XT.

OOOHHHhhhh that is nice. Looks like brand new. Those are very popular bikes, lightweight, enough power for on-road as well as off-road. Is that the stock exhaust?

That is an aftermarket exhaust, and it is a little loud for my tastes. I have a Supertrapp on my XT that is just about right, but this one is pretty loud. The funny thing is, says "Quiet" right on the side, I would hate to hear what the loud version sounds like.
I was just out ripping around in traffic with it, and it lightning fast, and torquey. I think I am going to swap the rear sprocket though, because this is set up for more off road riding, and I am about a 50/50 on/off rider.

Very nice RockhopJohn! May I suggest getting a FMF Q Spark Arrestor? FMF has come out with a few nice & quiet exhaust systems recently.

Yeah, I am really looking forward to getting some time in on this bike. I have been riding my XT for 8 years, so I am really comfortable on it; when I took the DRZ out this afternoon I could tell it was going to take me a while to warm up to it. I also separated my should 4 weeks ago on the XT, and this is the first time I have been back out in the dirt sense, so I was taking it pretty easy.
Hopefully we will have another month or so of good warm weather here so that I can ride some this fall. We already had snow a few days ago, and their was still snow along the sides of the road when I went out this afternoon, so I am not holding out too much hope.

nice bike,
those pro circuits can be a little loud but all in all they are pretty nice pipes. have you pulled the end cap off to see if it really has the quiet core insert in it ? they make a pretty big difference in the db output. i have white brothers pipes on a few of my quads, like the supertrapps they have the disc system [externally instead of internally] and you can really tone it down if you want or need to [forest riding]. was thinking about a yoshi for my 450r but there isn't a whole lot of gain over the stock pipe with the hrc insert. need to find one that gives some more low end grunt since the last bike was a 660 and this one just revs to the moon, had to learn how to ride all over again. |
