I'm told constantly that I have too many keys between my work and home/car sets. So, I'm wondering how obnoxious my keychains are in comparison to anyone else's...
Car/Other set consists of: -Outback Key -Outback Remote -House Key (All ext. doors + shed padlock) -Room Key (So family members can't disrupt things when I'm not home) -Town Library keys--I do a little volunteer work (3 Total) Work set consists of (on a carabiner--I use them too much to have them in a pocket): -Fob for electric perimeter locks (which I almost never use since the exterior doors I usually use don't have electric access on them) -Light switch key (some buildings have tamper-proof switches in different places) -Masters to various buildings (5 total) Between both sets it is 12 keys + 2 fobs. I don't think that's a ridiculous amount. So, what do you have to lug around with you? |

3 keys
Outback key House key Work key I have another keychain with probably a dozen keys that I only bring with me when I fish, camp, or doing yardwork. All the keys to the camper, boat, shed and whatnot are on that keychain. I am thinking of just stowing the work and home keys in the car. I don't use them 99% of the time. I go through the door in the garage into the house and it's not locked because a thief can defeat it in about 3 seconds, which is what it takes me on the off chance it is locked. |

My car key. I usually keep it in my wallet.
I carry my bike key too when it's in season. But not right now. I have a giant keychain inside the car with a set of keys to most places I would need, but never see a need to carry it around in my pocket. My car is my purse. |

I've always just carried one key and no keychain. I hated it when my wife's car needed two keys, one for the door and one for the ignition.
All vehicles have a garage door opener or I get out and open it. No need for a house key. Never needed a key for work. Roof rack and bike lock key is in the glovebox. Steve

The question is a bit complex to answer really...
Depending on the occasion, I may be carrying as many as 30+ keys. I have a second ring with keys for more unique situations, like keys to locking cases or more distant houses and buildings I may need to access. I may also be carrying a ring of keys provided by whomever my current employer is. The main 'usual' set which bears the Subaru key shares space with 7 others, including a couple for my house, my mailbox, a set for my friends business (I'm his backup for critical situations), and one for a certain gun's case. its actually more than it should be, because too many keys means too much weight on the ignition cylinder, which wears it (and your key) out.

i have a dozen or more too. i've heard that having keys on the keychain that you put in the ignition, the excessive weight can wear it out. but i haven't had it happen yet. but i also have probably used 10 different subaru's as daily drivers in the past 5 years.
