Default Thanksgiving. I hate you.

Who else is going to have an awkward thanksgiving?

For once mine wont be awkward. Just the wife and kids and I this year. No drama for the first time!

I am staying home so it will be fine.
The wife's family is coming but it is easy enough to avoid them while taking care of my two boys.
If I had to go to my family's it would be ****.
I guess it's somewhat comforting I am not the only one in that situation.

Just trying to figure where we are going to seat thirteen people. Should be a fun day.

This will be my first working Thanksgiving. I work on oil rigs, and nothing is sacred in terms of when we work. Looks like the Company Man is whipping up a pretty nice spread for everyone though, so that should be good.

Last year on thanksgiving I was working the evening shift.
The plant went down every 20 minutes the entire night from 7:30PM to 6AM
Let's just say the turkey never got touched.

I worked a number of thanksgivings back when I worked for Walmart while i was in college. Mornings those days were super busy, but in the afternoon and evenings, the store would be dead. We would spend the evening doing what we could to get ready for all **** to break loose the next day. I'm glad I got out of working retail.

I've had a few awkward Thanksgivings in the past trying to manage both my wife's and my families. We eventually decided the only way to please everyone was for us to do it on our own, no extended family will be invited. So this year, we are getting together with some friends. We will meet up with my parents tomorrow for a pie party and Sunday we will do dinner with my wife's family.

I will be trying out a recipe for maple cranberry turkey.
